NEXTGen Detroit’s Social Action Committee presents Waga Brok, an Ethiopian Israeli’s Journey

March 25, 2021 @ 12:00 pm

Got wanderlust? Hungry? Both? Zoom along as we travel the world to break bread remarkable members of our global Jewish community.

NEXTGen Detroit’s Social Action Committee presents a new series exploring culture, diversity and social justice in Jewish communities around the world.

We’ll join community leaders from Ethiopia to Peru to learn about what makes their communities distinct, from the history of Jews in their land to contempory challenges — and, of course, what makes their local Jewish food the best in the world.

You will get to eat lunch (anything you want!) with guests whose Jewish journey intersects with often overlooked geography, history and culture.

Our first speaker will be educator and activist Waga Brok, an Ethiopian Israeli whose lifelong commitment to empowering young people included a tour of duty as a counselor at our very own JCC summer camp.

Register now to join us for a little culture, a lot of fun and a deeper connection to our fellow Jews the world over. Work up an appetite for wise words from Waga followed by a lively Q&A.
