Unlikely Partners for Peace: An Evening with Roots

December 15, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

22 NXG ROOTS JLV event u204rM.tmp

Join us as we welcome members of Roots, an Israel-based organization founded by Palestinians and religious Jewish settlers with the hope of creating opportunities for open discourse and meaningful relationships where it matters most — inside the heart of the conflict — the West Bank.

We will hear from Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger, founder of Roots, who has spent his career teaching Jewish studies, as well as Noor A’wad, who was born to Palestinian parents and experienced his own journey rethinking the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both of our speakers will discuss the important and inspiring work that Roots is doing in Israel and abroad, in addition to their personal experiences and opinions about co-existing and developing understanding and solidarity despite ideological differences.

For many of us here in the US, our willingness, or even capacity, to engage in civil discourse across divides is rapidly eroding. Whether in the media or our personal lives, it is becoming increasingly harder to talk to those with whom we disagree. Imagine what we can learn from those who form relationships and organize across unimaginable divides in a deeply hostile area.

Please register in advance by December 13.

$10 per person includes drinks and dessert. Dietary laws observed.

This event is intended for young adults ages 21 to 39.
