The tongues of fire at Pentecost. Pele\, Chango\, Sekhmet and Breige. The Zarathustrans ate fire. Agni\, the Hindu God\, transported human messages heavenward through flame. And In the Qur’an\, supernatural beings are fashioned from smokeless fire. \nBut before any of those stories\, there was Eden. \nAdam and Eve broke their covenant with heaven. Cast out from paradise\, they left behind divine wisdom to discover their own. SUMMARY:Tribe 12 Goes to the National Jewish Playwriting Contest
DESCRIPTION:Tribe 12 is thrilled to partner with The Jewish Plays Project to bring the Finals of the National Jewish Playwriting Contest to Philadelphia for the first time\, presenting its signature event on Independence Mall during the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of our country! \nThis one-of-a-kind event is a combination of a TED Talk\, a play reading and American Idol. Artistic Director David Winitsky will speak on the state of new Jewish drama\, three plays are introduced by a video from the playwright\, 20-minute excerpts are read by a group of stellar Philadelphia actors\, and then the audience gets to vote on the National Winner. \nThe winning play will be presented in a workshop reading at the Festival of New Jewish Plays in New York this fall. The National Finals are the culmination of a 10-city\, 1\,000 audience member process which the JPP calls Artistic Democracy. The finalists for the National Jewish Playwriting Contest were selected from over 355 submissions from 32 states and 8 countries by ppanels of arts and Jewish luminaries in New York\, Los Angeles\, Silicon Valley\, Boston\, Hartford\, Tel Aviv\, Houston\, Philadelphia and Toronto. \nFree to attend\, with a cash bar available beginning at 6pm. This Sichuan “jumping water” pickle making workshop introduces you to one of China’s most beloved quick pickling traditions – a technique that’s been keeping dining crisp\, tangy\, and full of life for generations. \nOver two hours\, you’ll explore the art of fast pickling the Sichuan way – working with seasonal vegetables like radish\, cucumber\, and carrot\, and building a brine layered with chilli\, garlic\, ginger\, and the unmistakable tingle of Sichuan peppercorn. You get to experiment with your own flavour combinations along the way. \nYour host will guide you through every stage\, making sure you understand not just the how\, but the why behind each step.
