SUMMARY:Chicago festival of Israeli Cinema: “Children of Nobody”
DESCRIPTION:Spend an afternoon at the 19th annual Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema! Come and see the drama film Children of Nobody on April 14th at 1PM! \n“For generations\, altruistic surrogate mother\, Margaret (Tiki Dayan)\, provided loving refuge to young boys– victims of neglect and violence– in a shabby house in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood of Tel Aviv.  When tragedy strikes\, it’s up to right-hand man Jackie (Roy Assaf) to keep the home from corrupt property developers.  Inspired by a true story.”

SUMMARY:Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema: “Generation 1.5”
DESCRIPTION:Join CFIC for a live screening of the unforgettable documentary Generation 1.5 at the 19th annual Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema!  Screening on April 13th at 8:45PM! \n“The massive Aliyah of over one million people from the former Soviet Union during the 1990’s has left an indelible mark on Israeli society– especially in high tech\, medicine\, sports and the arts.  However\, their absorption was not without challenges\, sacrifices and discrimination.  Three decades later\, the film captures the profound perspective of “generation 1.5”: those who were born in the USSR and immigrated to Israel as children or teenagers.

SUMMARY:Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema: “Vishniac”
DESCRIPTION:He was difficult and flamboyant\, a shameless self-promoter\, bender of the truth and master of reinvention. He was also one of the groundbreaking photographers of the 20th century–a brilliant artist whose body of work spans decades\, continents\, and the catastrophic fallout from two world wars. Though his pioneering microscopy transformed the nature of science photography in the 1970s\, Roman Vishniac is best known for his iconic images of Jewish life in Eastern Europe from 1935 through 1938. Few predicted that less than a decade later\, these communities would be wiped out\, and Vishniac’s photographs would provide the last visual records of an entire world. Now for the first time\, his story comes to life as a feature documentary. Produced by Roberta Grossman (Above and Beyond\, Who Will Write Our History).

SUMMARY:Tribe 12 Israel Series: Fear Writing Circle
DESCRIPTION:In December 2023\, we hosted a space to come together as a community to process the current situation in Israel and Gaza. Our community\, as well as our staff\, is not monolithic – we contain a broad range of perspectives on this issue. In listening to these perspectives\, we centered three core emotions echoing in our community: grief\, fear and hope. For the original event\, we gathered as one community to break bread together and share a bit from our hearts. Then\, we offered a choice between three small group conversations\, each facilitated by a member of our staff\, that centered one of these three emotions. \nIn 2024\, we are committed to holding more space for our community to process as this war continues. We’ve decided to launch a monthly gathering\, rotating between grief\, fear and hope. Every session is drop-in and you can come to as many or as few as you feel called to attend. \nOur March gathering will be a writing and sharing circle facilitated by one of Tribe 12’s engagement professionals\, Danielle Selber. This gathering is for those feeling fear\, whether fear for their own safety\, fear for the safety of others in Israel and Gaza\, fear of antisemitism\, or something else. There will be time for quiet written reflection with facilitation and prompts and for structured sharing where participants can express curiosity and validation for fears that may look different than their own. In this space we will engage in witnessing and honoring rather than challenging each other’s fears. \nDinner will be provided. \n________________________________ \nTribe 12 connects people in their 20s/30s to Jewish life and community in Philadelphia today so they will choose to stay connected tomorrow. We welcome people who identify as Jewish\, whose partner is Jewish\, or who are exploring Judaism. Tribe 12 seeks to include all individuals regardless of gender or identity expression\, religious history and practice\, and financial circumstances. We strive to host inclusive\, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. If you require any accommodations please see our accessibility page and contact us with any questions at info@tribe12.org.
