SUMMARY:Tribe 12 Earth Day Celebration: Block Clean-Up and Picnic Lunch and Learn
DESCRIPTION:Have fun with friends while caring for our environment\, and celebrate Earth Day with Tribe 12! We will start our morning off by cleaning up the area around the Weitzman Museum of National American Jewish History\, and Independence Mall. We are so lucky to call this place our home and be able to have so many events in such a historically significant area. Let’s give back to this beautiful city\, and help clean-up Philly! After the clean-up\, we will wash up and enjoy a picnic lunch and learn in Independence Park led by Amanda! The topic will be Judaism and the Environment\, and we will cater lunch from Nourish\, a local plant-based Resturant. \nHere is the schedule for the day:\n11:30-12:45- block clean-up\n12:45-1 break to wash our hands and set up lunch\n1-2:30- picnic lunch and learn! \nAll supplies for clean-up will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little dirty. This event will be rain or shine\, so dress for the weather! If it rains\, we will move the lunch and learn inside. In the event of severe weather\, we will reschedule the clean-up.

SUMMARY:TRIBE - Bedikat HaMayim Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Long Ago\, the Sea Saved Our Ancestors…Isn’t it Time We Return the Favor? \nPesach is the time when we clean our homes and remove chametz\, the last remaining bits of leavened products in our homes before the holiday. But our home isn’t just our house. Our home is the Earth. And 70% of it is water. \nWe search the shorelines\, rivers\, lakes\, and harbors for a different kind of chametz: plastic snack bags and bottles that once held chametz\, plastic cutlery that served chametz\, and plastic bags that carried chametz — now lingering in our water long after the holiday has passed. We call this practice Bedikat HaMayim — the searching of the water. \nThe global participation in our annual Reverse Tashlich cleanup has been inspiring and continues to grow. But awareness alone is not enough. Once a year is not enough. That’s why Repair the Sea created a second global cleanup: Bedikat HaMayim® — to keep the challenges facing our water and marine life present in our collective consciousness\, and to offer ongoing opportunities for meaningful action. \nBy weaving Bedikat HaMayim into Jewish life\, we align our spiritual values with environmental responsibility. We become part of a global movement rooted in care\, connection\, repair and restoration. Join us in caring for our shared water\, strengthening our global Jewish community\, and helping turn intention into action. Pesach asks us to clean our homes. Bedikat HaMayim asks us to clean our world. \nThe TRIBE will be joining forces with Tikkun Hayam and Keep Pinellas Beautiful (KPB) to take part in the INTERNATIONAL Bedikat HaMayim Beach Cleanup event on Sunday\, March 22nd from 9:00am-12:00pm. \nAll participants MUST complete the online waiver form prior to the event. A second waiver for KPB will need to be filled out at the event itself. Registering in advance is important so we know how many sets of cleanup gear to provide. \nOur cleanup will take place at Gandy North Beach on the north side of the Gandy Causeway. You can simply type “Gandy North Beach” into your GPS app to navigate to the location. Look for the pop-up canopy and table with the KPB tablecloth. Please arrive by 9:00am for instructions and safety briefing. \nWe will provide all cleanup gear (gloves\, garbage bags\, pickers\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, hand sanitizer\, etc.). Participants must wear close-toed shoes\, bring a reusable water bottle\, and wear weather appropriate clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will have a 5-gallon Igloo to refill your reusable water bottle.

SUMMARY:Everything But The Turkey: Young Professionals Edition
DESCRIPTION:Join young professionals across the DMV at the Edlavitch DCJCC for our signature volunteer event\, Everything But The Turkey. Volunteers will prepare Thanksgiving-themed side dishes for those experiencing hunger and homelessness in our region – we’ll make Everything But The Turkey! Our program partners at DC Central Kitchen then add turkeys and distribute the meals to partner agencies including homeless shelters\, schools\, and more. \nThis program is open to volunteers ages 21-45. If you are outside of that age group\, we encourage you to participate in one of our other EBTT shifts happening Sunday or Monday evening. \nRegistration is required for this program and we expect it to fill up quickly! Please note that we request a tax-deductible donation of $20 per person to cover the costs of this program in order to ensure that we are able to purchase high quality ingredients. Check out our FAQ at edcjcc.org/ebtt or contact Sonya at sweisburd@edcjcc.org with any additional questions\, including if cost poses a barrier to participation.
