SUMMARY:Shabbat 101
DESCRIPTION:This is our most requested class to date and we cannot wait to dig into it with you. During this class we will explore the iconic Jewish spiritual technology of Shabbat. We will spend some time understanding the overarching themes and then we will spend the majority of the class getting into the nitty gritty\, answering questions like: what are the prayers we say on Friday nights and Saturday mornings? How would I go about having a home shabbat practice? What are actually all of the rules?! \nThis class meets on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 beginning 11/13-12/11. We will also gather together for a songful Kabbalat Shabbat and dinner at Molly’s house in West Philly on 12/13. For the Wednesday class sessions we will be meeting in the conference room on the second floor of the Weitzman and dinner will be served at each class. The cost is $54 with no one turned away for lack of funds.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn. Overcoming Trauma: Youth Mental Health in Israel Post 10/7
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this enlightening lunchtime discussion to hear about the amazing work ELEM/Youth in Distress is doing in Israel\, especially in the wake of October 7th. \nOur guest speaker Renana Danon\, ELEM Assistant Director of Clinical Training\, will share how the organization has been forced to pivot its focus to addressing the pervasive and debilitating mental health conditions Israeli youth are experiencing during this time of crisis. She’ll also share firsthand stories from staff and youth in the field\, as Israelis navigate new and complex forms of individual and collective trauma. \nThe event is free. A light kosher lunch will be served. Please register today. \nLooking forward to seeing you there. \nDr. Tracey Stulberg \nEvent Chair \nLior Zisser-Yogev \nCommunity Shlicha \nAbout ELEM \nFounded in 1982\, ELEM/Youth in Distress in Israel is the country’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to treating and transforming the lives of troubled and at-risk youth. \nThe 12\,500 young people they serve annually face-to-face and online deal with tremendous challenges\, such as domestic violence\, substance abuse\, neglect\, bullying\, homelessness and prostitution. \nELEM works with secular and religious Jews; Christian and Muslim Arabs\, including Bedouins; immigrants\, including those from the Former Soviet Union and Ethiopia; and the LGBT community\, most of whom live on the streets and will not seek help from traditional social service groups. ELEM’s hundreds of professionals and thousands of volunteers don’t wait for referrals to treat these youth but seek them out on their turf — on the streets\, in schools\, on the Internet and at bars and nightclubs. ELEM offers over 90 programs in 42 cities in Israel that provide counseling\, mentoring\, vocational training and a safe space for Israeli youth to envision a positive future for themselves and become productive members of society.
