SUMMARY:Darkness and Light: Creative Exploration for Chanukah - Los Angeles
DESCRIPTION:In this season of Kislev\, come explore both the miracle of Chanukah’s light–and the miracle of darkness. During this session you will learn about and experience the Jewish Studio Process—a unique methodology that builds creative capacity by combining art therapy practices with a reimagined approach to Jewish learning. Together\, we’ll nurture our creative spirits and explore the wisdom found in both shadow and light. \nWhether you’re exploring your creativity for the first time and seeking a supportive environment or looking to re-invigorate your creative life\, The Jewish Studio Process will meet you where you are and invite you deeper. Come as you are—leave more deeply connected to your own inner spark\, and more trusting of the wisdom that darkness can hold. \nCo-sponsored by our friends at NuRoots. This experience is part of Infinite Light\, NuRoots’ citywide Hanukkah festival\, December 14–22. Discover more at nuroots.org/infinitelight. \nFacilitated by Ilana Jaffe LewisIlana Jaffe-Lewis is a Teaching Artist and mother based in Los Angeles\, California. Ilana spends her summer teaching Process Art at the Brandeis Camp Institute. Ilana’s hobbies include: creating\, reading\, observing\, listening\, and bringing people together. She loves animals\, flowers\, book stores\, and honest conversation. \nPlease note photography will take place at this event—let us know if you have any questions. \nCOVID Policy: \nMasks are optional and extras will be available at the studio. If you are symptomatic or not feeling well\, please stay home and we will see you next time. \nParking: Garage parking is available with elevator access to the gathering space on Level 1\, where all surfaces are paved or carpeted. SUMMARY:Single & Spontaneous Improv Workshop
DESCRIPTION:*So* many first dates come out of this sold-out event last year that we had to bring it back! \nWant to make new connections and have a blast along the way? We’re partnering with our friends at Crossroads Comedy Theater for an improv workshop designed for Philly’s Jewish singles in their 20s and 30s who are looking to meet people in a fun yet structured atmosphere. \nLed by Crossroads instructor Rachel Semigran\, this experience combines real improv training with playful\, interactive games. You’ll learn to let go of inhibitions\, trust your instincts\, and communicate authentically with others. A perfect environment to make genuine connections! Enjoy snacks and non-alcoholic drinks before and after the activities. \nThis event is designed for total beginners to improv\, though of course those with experience are welcome to attend. Not sure if it’s your thing? We’re willing to bet the best relationships are built on spontaneity\, laughter\, and a little bit of courage\, so how about you come anyway 🙂 \nAbout Crossroads Comedy Theater: Crossroads Comedy Theater is a nonprofit company committed to providing people ways to explore their creativity\, build valuable life and business skills\, and have a “third place” that allows them to learn and have fun in a positive and supportive environment. SUMMARY:Torn Film Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for an evening of conversation\, community and learning. We are so excited to present to you Torn: The Israel–Palestine Poster War on New York City Streets. We have to opportunity to feature film participants Alana Zeitchick (Israeli-American Advocate and Hostage Family Member)\, Julia Simon (childhood friend of Omer Neutra) and Rabbi Yehuda Sarna (Executive Director of the Bronfman Center and Interviewee) in this event and hear from them after the screening. This event created in partnership with Moishe House of Williamsburg\, Hells Kitchen\, Harlem\, Upper East Side\, Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn NAIM. This is an event specifically open to young adults ages 20-40 years old. \nAfter Hamas’s October 7 attacks and Israel’s war in Gaza\, New York erupts into a poster war over the kidnapped. TORN captures the symbolic battle for public space — where strangers rip\, defend\, and rage in the streets\, and empathy is the first thing to go. As the ceasefire in Israel-Gaza is now in effect and our 20 living hostages have returned from captivity this evening will focus on where we go from here. \nHow do we ask difficult questions and how do we have difficult conversations? These posters explore questions about freedom of speech in America and how do we continue to ask those questions as we begin again. \nPlease join us before the screening at 6pm for some drinks\, light snacks and to mix and mingle. The film will start promptly at 7pm with a talkback following.
