SUMMARY:Tu B’Shevat Seder: Pathway to the Past and Road to the Future
DESCRIPTION:Join Base UWS to celebrate Tu B’Shevat: Judaism’s New Year of the Trees by digging into our family roots! We’ll begin at 8:00PM with our Tu B’Shevat Seder to explore the mystical qualities of fruits\, nuts\, and wine/juice. At 8:45PM\, we’ll dive deep into our roots with a presentation from professional genealogist Rudi Weinberg. \nPlease note that includes light snacks and drinks – not dinner. \nRegister here. \nPresentation Description: \nHave you ever wondered where your family came from\, whether the stories you grew up hearing were true\, or if your ancestry could open the door to foreign citizenship? This hands-on workshop is designed for anyone curious about their family’s past—and the real-world opportunities that discovering it can create. Participants will learn the fundamentals of genealogical research\, including how to build a family tree usingAncestry.comand how to trace ancestors through key historical records such as censuses\, immigration documents\, and ship manifests. You’ll gain the tools to begin tracing your family back to Ellis Island and beyond\, uncover long-lost relatives\, and separate family myth from historical fact. Whether you’re just starting your genealogy journey or exploring how ancestry connects to heritage\, identity\, and citizenship by descent\, this workshop will give you a practical foundation and a roadmap for continued discovery. \nRudi Weinberg is a professional genealogist who helps clients uncover their family’s stories through family trees\, records\, relationships\, and lived experience\, all without the need for DNA testing. Whether you’re mapping your ancestry\, applying for European citizenship by descent\, or planning a heritage trip\, Rudi approaches every project with care\, precision\, and personal investment. This isn’t just research. It’s a way to reclaim what’s been lost\, reconnect across generations\, and to the people it belongs with. \nAccessibility: There are eight steps leading up to Base UWS and an elevator to the first floor. \nAddress given upon registration. Please contact Rabbi Danny (danny.stein@memglobal.org) with any questions.\n—\nWe kindly ask that you do not come to events if you are feeling ill. We currently do not require Covid testing or face masks; we have face masks available for those who want one. \nWant to know more about Base UWS? Participants will learn techniques relevant to street-level encounters\, as well as response principles for identifying\, managing\, and disrupting a hostile individual attempting to gain access to a Jewish institution — with an emphasis on awareness\, positioning\, and decisive action rather than physical strength. \nNo prior experience required. Open to men and women ages 16+.Modest workout attire recommended. \nAbout the Instructor\nAlec Goenner is the owner and lead instructor at IKMA Krav Maga and has completed over 3\,000 hours of advanced instructor training. He holds Black Belt ranking\, earned directly under Grandmaster Haim Gidon in Israel — one of only a few Americans to do so. Alec is a certified Krav Maga Civilian\, Military\, and Police Instructor\, and has trained alongside elite instructors including IDF Special Forces experts Nir Maman and Garret Machine. \nAn active-duty U.S. Coast Guard servicemember\, Alec brings years of martial arts\, fitness\, and real-world defensive experience to every class. \nLearn more at IKMA Krav Maga. \nWhy This Matters\nThis event is more than just a class — it’s part of CTRI’s mission to empower the Jewish community through training\, readiness\, and volunteer security leadership. \nProceeds support CTRI’s training and operational readiness work\, helping equip and license community volunteers who protect Jewish institutions across our region. \nYour participation strengthens individual readiness and communal resilience.

SUMMARY:Big Jewish Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Big Jewish Gathering – a two-day spiritual convening in Brooklyn weaving immersive ritual\, embodied learning\, and creative renewal. On January 24–25\, we’ll gather with spiritual leaders\, teachers\, and artists from across Jewish time and tradition — converging through mystical and ancestral pathways of awakening. \nThe Big Jewish Gathering is a bold new experiment in Jewish spiritual and cultural life: a two-day spiritual laboratory where emerging and established Jewish leaders will co-create a Judaism that meets this moment — one that is rooted\, relevant\, and alive. \nThis is not a retreat. It’s not a synagogue service. It is a practice ground for connection\, creativity\, and renewal\, open to anyone interested in vibrant\, meaningful engagement with a Judaism that is embodied\, relational\, and grounded in tradition.
