SUMMARY:Shabbat Exploration Series: Potluck Lunch & Singing Circle
DESCRIPTION:This is the January edition of our Shabbat Exploration Series! \nWe invite you to enjoy a potluck lunch and singing circle at a private home in Manayunk. The environment will be intentionally phone-free\, relaxed\, with the vibe of sitting around the table talking and singing Shabbat songs (no singing experience or prior song knowledge required). We will provide the main meal\, which will be vegetarian — please bring a side\, drink\, or dessert to share. \nLike every part of this series\, no prior experience is expected — the point is to try something new and not do it alone! You can sign up for just this one event as a drop in\, or join our Shabbat Exploration Series cohort to enjoy the full arc of programming. See below for details! \nShabbat is a day of rest\, joy\, and connection\, and there are many ways to experience it. Maybe you want a break from your phone for a day\, or even just for a few hours\, but that might feel lonely. Maybe you’ve been wanting to check out a synagogue in town\, but don’t want to go by yourself. Maybe you want to connect over a leisurely Shabbat lunch and songs with other people\, feeling like there’s nowhere you have to rush off to\, just being fully in the moment. \nThis is the inspiration for our Shabbat Exploration Series. One Saturday a month from January to June\, rotate between synagogue-based experiences and home/nature-based ones with other 20s and 30s. This is a chance to explore different ways of doing Shabbat to see what fits for you individually\, while also forming friendships with people who are doing the same. The experiences are open to people who currently have any level of Shabbat observance\, including zero experience\, and there is no end goal regarding how you observe. Tribe 12 Rabbinic Intern Adina Ikeman and Tribe 12 Director of Engagement(s) Danielle Selber will lead this program. \nParticipation options: \nDrop in to individual events: Just interested in one or two offerings? You can register for any individual event just like any other program. \n$5 for synagogue-based experiences (includes a meal)\n$10 for home- or nature-based experiences (includes a meal) \nJoin the cohort: Want the full experience? Join a cohort of people exploring what Shabbat means\, together. Cohort members are automatically registered for every program in the series (if you need to miss any\, that is totally fine). \n$54 covers all Saturday morning experiences\nCohort members have the added perk of attending a closing Shabbat dinner with Danielle and Adina! \nSchedule: (subject to change) \nSaturday\, January 31st: Potluck lunch and singing (Manayunk) \nSaturday\, February 21st: Synagogue experience (Society Hill Synagogue) \nSaturday\, March 21st: Shabbat lunch and walk (Wissahickon Park) \nSaturday\, April 11th: Synagogue experience (Rodeph Shalom) \nSaturday\, May 16th: Guided Shabbat hike (Northwest location TBA) \nSaturday\, June 6th: Synagogue experience (Center City location TBA) \nFriday\, May 29th: Closing Shabbat for cohort members (Location TBA) \nQuestions? Email danielle@tribe12.org or adina@tribe12.org! \nTribe 12 connects people in their 20s/30s to Jewish life and community in Philadelphia today so they will choose to stay connected tomorrow. We welcome people who identify as Jewish\, whose partner is Jewish\, or who are exploring Judaism. If you require any accommodations in order to fully participate in our programming\, please see our page on accommodations. If you require any financial assistance to participate\, contact us at info@tribe12.org.

SUMMARY:Actor Saul Rubinek for Q&A at a screening of "SHTTL"
DESCRIPTION:EXCLUSIVE! Actor Saul Rubinek in person Q&A a a special screening of “SHTTL” a film in Yiddish!\n\n\n \nJoin Us for a Special Screening of “SHTTL” with an in-person Q&A with actor\, SAUL RUBINEK (of “Unforgiven”\, “Wall Street”\, “True Romance”)\n\nDirected by Ady WalterStarring Saul Rubinek (as the Chief Rebbe) \nDrama\, Ukraine\, 2025\, 109 Minutes \nIn Yiddish with English subtitles \nSynopsis: A filmmaker returns from Kyiv to his rural village to marry the love of his life. He is expected to marry the Rabbi’s daughter\, which disrupts the balance of the whole town. In one unflinching shot\, this film presents a day in the life of a Jewish village before it disappears. SHTTL is the story of the inhabitants of a Yiddish Ukrainian village at the border of Poland\, 24 hours before the Nazi invasion\, known as Operation Barbarossa. Today\, there are no such villages in existence; the production fully reconstructed a traditional ‘Shtetl’ outside of Kyiv\, which is planned to be turned into a museum. \nStarring Saul Rubinek and Moshe Lobel \nThis film was shot in the Ukraine six months before the war broke out.\n \n“A CINEMATIC TRIUMPH! Shot in one take\, in Yiddish\, and under threat of invasion\, “Shttl” rebuilds a lost Jewish village with haunting authenticity. Ady Walter may have the most chutzpah of any Jewish director in recent years.” – Alan Zeitlin\, Unpacked Media \n \nIn partnership with Laemmle Theatres\, courtesy of Menemsha FIlms.

SUMMARY:Torn Film Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for an evening of conversation\, community and learning. We are so excited to present to you Torn: The Israel–Palestine Poster War on New York City Streets. We have to opportunity to feature film participants Alana Zeitchick (Israeli-American Advocate and Hostage Family Member)\, Julia Simon (childhood friend of Omer Neutra) and Rabbi Yehuda Sarna (Executive Director of the Bronfman Center and Interviewee) in this event and hear from them after the screening. This event created in partnership with Moishe House of Williamsburg\, Hells Kitchen\, Harlem\, Upper East Side\, Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn NAIM. This is an event specifically open to young adults ages 20-40 years old. \nAfter Hamas’s October 7 attacks and Israel’s war in Gaza\, New York erupts into a poster war over the kidnapped. TORN captures the symbolic battle for public space — where strangers rip\, defend\, and rage in the streets\, and empathy is the first thing to go. As the ceasefire in Israel-Gaza is now in effect and our 20 living hostages have returned from captivity this evening will focus on where we go from here. \nHow do we ask difficult questions and how do we have difficult conversations? These posters explore questions about freedom of speech in America and how do we continue to ask those questions as we begin again. \nPlease join us before the screening at 6pm for some drinks\, light snacks and to mix and mingle. The film will start promptly at 7pm with a talkback following.

SUMMARY:Jacinda Ardern: A Different Kind of Power
DESCRIPTION:Jacinda Ardern at Sixth & I\n\n\nWhat if we could redefine leadership? What if kindness came first? \nThe Right Honourable Dame Jacinda Ardern was elected the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand at the age of thirty-seven\, becoming the country’s youngest Prime Minister in more than 150 years. Ardern exemplifies a new kind of leadership—proving that leaders can be caring\, empathetic\, and effective. After becoming a global icon\, she’s ready to share the remarkable story of how a Mormon girl plagued by self-doubt made political history and changed our assumptions of what a global leader can be. \nJoined by special guests\, Ardern will reflect on the struggles\, triumphs\, and deeply personal experiences that shaped her leadership style and what she’s learned along the way. \nwith Politics and Prose Bookstore \n\n\nEvents at Sixth & I \n\nClick here for directions to our historic building.\nFor details about accessible seating and entry\, click here.\nClick here to review our event policies\, security procedures\, and food and beverage policies.\nClick here for step-by-step instructions to transfer your ticket to someone else.\nClick here for step-by-step instructions to transfer your in-person ticket to a virtual ticket
