SUMMARY:Brooke Shields
DESCRIPTION:Brooke Shields in conversation with Dr. Sharon Malone at Sixth & I\n\n\nAt fifty-nine\, Brooke Shields feels more comfortable in her skin and more empowered\, confident\, and free than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Klein ads. In Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old\, she flips the script on what it means for a woman to grow older. This is an era\, insists Shields\, when women are reclaiming agency and power in the prime of their lives\, not receding into the shadows. SUMMARY:A Pro-Israel Discussion with the Pink Haired Pizza Girl Caroline D’Amore
DESCRIPTION:What does a good Catholic Italian girl from LA have to say about Israel? Well quite a bit — and she’s got a lot of people listening. If you’re not one of Caroline D’Amore’s 141K Instagram followers\, then please let us introduce you to the Pink Haired Pizza Girl! Caroline is the owner of “Pizza Girl” restaurant in Venice Beach and has appeared on Hell’s Kitchen with Gordon Ramsey. Caroline is not Jewish\, but she is married to an Israeli\, and since October 7 she has used her online platform to advocate for Israel as a proud non-Jewish ally. Help us welcome her to Detroit to talk about what it means to be pro-Israel and the importance of speaking out. We’ll enjoy an Italian-themed dinner at Soul Café and learn a bit about the café as well as the Soul Studio. \nThe Loop is a Federation initiative focused on engaging with and bringing together Jews living in the westernmost suburbs of Detroit (think Walled Lake\, Northville\, Novi\, Commerce\, Plymouth)\, but all are welcome to attend. \n$50 per person includes discussion and dinner. \nSpace is very limited. Please register in advance. \nMore about D’Amore \nCaroline D’Amore is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a passionate activist. She has been vocal about various social issues\, particularly standing up against hate and antisemitism. After a powerful post she shared went viral\, Caroline began using her platform to advocate for the Jewish community and fight all forms of hate. She has since traveled around the world\, speaking to organizations\, colleges\, and online audiences\, encouraging others to take a stand against intolerance and prejudice. Her activism is rooted in her personal experiences and commitment to creating positive change\, as she continues to inspire others to speak up and get involved in meaningful causes. Through her efforts\, Caroline has become a voice for unity and equality\, alongside her work as the CEO of Pizza Girl. \nThe Loop is powered by the Gerson Innovation Fund. \nThank you to our Leadership \nThe Loop Co-Chairs: \nSara and Scott Bernstein \nJessica and Danny Klein \nDanielle and Aaron Ruskin \nBill Goldstein and Jayme Kirschner\, Affinities Department Chairs

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Hila Amram in conversation with Roxana Fabius
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of art and conversation with Peleh Residency Artist Hila Amram\, a Tel Aviv-based artist bridging the worlds of art and science. The Neighborhood Curator Roxana Fabius will lead a discussion about how the intertwining of biology\, chemistry\, and archaeology with art open unprecedented creative and destructive possibilities. \nHila Amram an Israeli-based multidisciplinary artist. Her work revolves around a continuous subjective research she conducts within her “artistic lab” which constitutes her creative space. Amram seeks to undermine the paradigms and typical practices within the respective fields of study\, at the same time revoking the\, some might say\, archaic hierarchy\, which strictly separates professional from hobbyists and sterile labs with strict sets of rules from centers with informal homely ambience which allow much improvisation. \nThe Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life is a Jewish community and cultural center in Brooklyn. We produce programs that raise up underrepresented perspectives and welcome the thousands of Brooklynites that have not yet found their Jewish home. We are creating a welcoming space that reflects the spirit of Brooklyn–future-thinking and deeply historical\, iconoclastic\, and sacred. \nThe Peleh Residency\, based in Berkeley\, CA and Brooklyn\, NY\, offers artists across all genres the time\, space and support to practice their craft. Designed to accommodate artists with families\, the residency provides a space apart for retreat\, reflection and art making\, and an opportunity to foster new collaborations\, audiences and connections.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Activism on The Lower East Side
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour centered around the history of activism on the Lower East Side! \nAt the turn of the twentieth century\, roughly 1.5 million Ashkenazi Jews descended on the Lower East Side in search of economic opportunity and religious tolerance. Like many immigrant communities\, their adjustment to life in America was complicated by prejudice\, poverty\, and acculturation. However\, at around the same time\, Jews began to challenge the status quo. Activism flourished in all aspects of public life in the Lower East Side as politicians\, journalists\, the working class\, and philanthropists fought for the rights of a growing generation of Americans. Although manifested in a new country with historically unique values\, much of the organizing done by Jews at the turn of the century drew upon traditions and beliefs of old. \nWe will trace its origins in Eastern Europe\, explore its landmarks on the Lower East Side\, and meet its leaders that stood on the frontlines. Discover the remarkable Jewish American struggle for women’s rights\, educational opportunity\, labor rights\, and economic equality that left a permanent mark on our city and country. \nHighlights: \n\nVisit the Museum at Eldridge’s Women’s Balcony to learn its history as a venue for activism\, including the Kosher Meat Boycott of 1902.\nStop by Seward Park\, the first municipally built free playground in the United States and designed especially for the neighborhood’s children\, the first generation to grow up in such crowded conditions.\nLearn the role that the Educational Alliance played in helping new and struggling immigrant families\nVisit Straus Square\, formerly Rutgers Square\, which played a vital role for activists and demonstrations.\n\nTicket Prices:\nAdults $25\nSeniors / Students $20\nChildren 5 and Under FREE\nCool Culture Pass / SNAP Benefits $5 \nMuseum at Eldridge Street Walking Tours are only available to small groups (25 people max). This tour is available to both individual ticket holders and families. \nImage Credit: Mrs. Perlmutter and others arguing the price of meat.
