So many Yuletide hits were created by Jewish artists: Irving Berlin (“White Christmas”)\, Mel Torme (“The Christmas Song”)\, Johnny Marks (“Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer”)\, to name a few. \nJazzukkah wondered: Could we give Chanukah a musical makeover the way some of those legendary songwriters did for Christmas? Is there a Chanukah holiday sound that we’re missing? \nEver since\, the band has been experimenting with the rich catalog of Chanukah songs\, giving them a distinct jazz touch\, and even adding a tune or two of their own to the repertoire like Hanukkah Blues. \nAbout the Artists: \nGilad Abro is an award-winning classically trained bassist and educator. He plays with Israel’s top talent like Berry Sakharoff and Marina Maximillian Blumin. \nElana Rosenfeld is a singer-songwriter\, cantor\, and educator. She has a BFA from the Tisch School Of The Arts at NYU and serves as High Holy Day cantor at Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City. \nTom Oren is the winner of the 2018 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition (currently the Herbie Hancock Institute). \nAlon Benjamini is a drummer and composer and a graduate of the jazz department at Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts\, and The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music. DESCRIPTION:Six13 is a groundbreaking\, six-man a cappella vocal band that is bringing an unprecedented style and energy to Jewish music\, with nothing but the power of the human voice. \nJuxtaposing the traditional and the contemporary\, Six13 is anchored by a strong Jewish identity\, fueled by soulful harmonies\, intricate arrangements and their signature dynamic\, full-band-like sound\, and driven by a mission to connect Jews around the world with their heritage through music. The band is uniquely comprised of members from varied Jewish denominations and upbringings\, creating an entertainment experience that has been universally acclaimed across the globe by Jewish organizations and individuals from equally varied backgrounds and generations. \nThe New York City-based group is an international phenomenon both online\, where their videos have been viewed over 20 million times\, and in traditional media\, having been featured in national \ntelevision and press like The Today Show\, The View\, CBS\, CNN\, Huffington Post\, Time Magazine and more. DESCRIPTION:Instead of our monthly Jewish young adult happy hour\, we’re celebrating Hanukkah with a delicious donut tasting!\n\n\nLet’s celebrate Hanukkah together!  \nENGAJ friends in your 20s and 30s who do NOT plan to attend the Six13 concert on Dec 15\, you can still enjoy the donut-tasting afterparty! (if you DO want to come to the concert and the donut tasting\, please see engaj.org for instructions on registering) \nCome to the JCC (4th floor of the cultural arts hall) to taste and vote on your favorite jelly donut in the Doughlympics\, the jam slam of food contests\, donut domination\, what we’re calling…SufganVOTE. \nThere will be two categories for voting: Store-bought and homemade. If you sign up to bring a box of a dozen donuts or make your own for the contest\, you will receive a special code for free entry to the event.
