SUMMARY:Death Over Dinner: In the Sukkah
DESCRIPTION:Grief and loss are an inextricable part of our individual and collective lives. Death Over Dinner is an invitation to address the basic fact that we are all\, at some point\, going to die\, and to discuss it across the table–a place where we can break bread and create connections. \nThe holiday of Sukkot invites us to gather in an intentional space and mark the passage of time. Together we will eat in the Sukkah while taking part in a facilitated conversation that gently guides us through questions around the end of life. \nThis event will include a delicious vegetarian* dinner along with an opportunity to discuss essential questions\, and consider how to live well in the face of mortality. We will hold an exploration of accessible Jewish texts to prompt questions and discussions about quality of life\, decision-making\, and communicating wishes with loved ones. \nDeath Over Dinner: In the Sukkah will be facilitated by Naomi Less\, co-founder\, ritual leader\, and associate director of Lab/Shul\, and is presented in partnership with Lab/Shul. \n*The dinner is both vegetarian and kosher. \nDeath Over Dinner: In the Sukkah is presented by The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life in partnership with Lab/Shul as a part of the Sukkot in The Neighborhood festival at the Ring Community Center at Luria Academy of Brooklyn. Sukkot in The Neighborhood events take place in an art installation Sukkah created by Ye’ela Wilschanski. Click here to see the full schedule of events. \nIf price is a barrier to your participation in this event\, please email info@theneighborhoodbk.org to request an accommodation.

SUMMARY:Opening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness
DESCRIPTION:Ye’ela Wilschanski invites us into her immersive artwork in the form of a Sukkah. Ye’ela’s piece\, Tending to Seeds of Sweetness\, is an art installation\, an architectural garment\, and a temporary dwelling which will be used for seven days of events throughout the holiday of Sukkot. \nYe’ela draws her inspiration from Sukkot’s ritual of Netilat Lulav: a bundle of four plants centered around a date tree frond. Through her unique artistic vocabulary\, she incorporates elements of the date tree including the sweet pits of the date fruit and the inflorescences and fronds. The artist combines basket weaving\, needle work\, and pottery to create the Sukkah art installation. \n\n\n\n\nOpening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness is presented by The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life as a part of the Sukkot in The Neighborhood festival at the Ring Community Center at Luria Academy of Brooklyn. Sukkot in The Neighborhood events take place in an art installation Sukkah created by Ye’ela Wilschanski. Click here to see the full schedule of events.

The artist combines basket weaving\,needle work\, and pottery to create the Sukkah art installation. \nOpening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness is presented by The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life as a part of the Sukkot in The Neighborhood festival at the Ring Community Center at Luria Academy of Brooklyn. Sukkot in The Neighborhood events take place in an art installation Sukkah created by Ye’ela Wilschanski. Click here to see the full schedule of events.

SUMMARY:Sukkot Sounds Presents: House Party @ The Yard
DESCRIPTION:Kick off the Sukkot Sounds season with the house party of our dreams! We’re taking over The Yard to host a Sukkot Sounds celebration filled with incredible live music\, craft cocktails\, delicious food\, giant games\, axe throwing\, and of course\, unique and immersive Sukkot ritual in community! \n~Young adults are invited to join The Well\, Repair the World Detroit\, Coalition Series\, OneTable\, and The Yard at Corktown for this night to remember~ \nDoors open at 6:00 PM. We’ll get the party started with a special guest DJ (more to come!) and enjoy a strolling vegetarian dinner and drinks. Around 7:00pm\, we’ll welcome Sukkot Sounds veteran James Gardin and his energetic and funky beats to the Sukkah-Stage. Giant games and axe throwing will be open all night\, so you can eat\, drink\, dance\, and play at your own pace. \nAs Sukkot is the Festival of Booths\, and we’re all headed to the voting booths in November\, Repair the World will also facilitate a station where you can register to vote or pick up some resources on civic engagement and voting justice. \nTickets: \nTickets are available at three pay-what-you-can tiers. The standard ticket price for this event is $27\, and includes vegetarian dinner\, one drink ticket\, live music\, and unlimited access to The Yard’s games and attractions. Due to the generosity of donors\, we are able to offer a subsidized ticket price of $18\, as well as a Pay it Forward price of $36\, which supports our ability to keep this event financially accessible. Please select the ticket cost that feels most appropriate for you. \nWe don’t want cost to be a barrier for attending this event. For questions or additional support\, please contact Marisa at marisa@meetyouatthewell.org. \nThis event is hosted in partnership with The Yard at Corktown. We’re grateful for the support of our organizational partners: Repair the World Detroit\, Coalition Series\, and OneTable.
