SUMMARY:Opening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness
DESCRIPTION:Ye’ela Wilschanski invites us into her immersive artwork in the form of a Sukkah. Ye’ela’s piece\, Tending to Seeds of Sweetness\, is an art installation\, an architectural garment\, and a temporary dwelling which will be used for seven days of events throughout the holiday of Sukkot. \nYe’ela draws her inspiration from Sukkot’s ritual of Netilat Lulav: a bundle of four plants centered around a date tree frond. Through her unique artistic vocabulary\, she incorporates elements of the date tree including the sweet pits of the date fruit and the inflorescences and fronds. The artist combines basket weaving\, needle work\, and pottery to create the Sukkah art installation. \n\n\n\n\nOpening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness is presented by The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life as a part of the Sukkot in The Neighborhood festival at the Ring Community Center at Luria Academy of Brooklyn. Sukkot in The Neighborhood events take place in an art installation Sukkah created by Ye’ela Wilschanski. Click here to see the full schedule of events.

SUMMARY:Harlem Renaissance Art Viewing
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we view the groundbreaking exhibition ‘The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism’\, which explores the comprehensive and far-reaching ways in which Black artists portrayed everyday modern life. \nThe exhibit showcases 160 works of painting\, sculpture\, photography\, film\, and ephemera\, through which the viewer can explore the new Black cities that took shape in the 1920s–40s in New York City’s Harlem and nationwide in the early decades of the Great Migration\, when millions of African Americans began to move away from the segregated rural South. \nThe exhibition establishes the Harlem Renaissance and its radically new development of the modern Black subject as central to the development of international modern art. \n*Admission is pay what you wish for NY residents and NY\, NJ\, and CT students*

SUMMARY:The Collective Womb
DESCRIPTION:“our bodies emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs…” \n\n\n\nInterdisciplinary performance artist Alexandra Neuman brings the premiere of The Collective Womb to El Jardin del Paraiso for a night of mythmaking on the summer solstice. This performance is a matriarchal creation story in which abortion is recognized as an ecological redistribution of life-force. Staged on a large mound of soil\, the performance celebrates the macro-scale creative power of our planet and the micro-scale creative power of each individual womb. This immersive event will include puppetry\, dance\, herbal elixirs\, and live music on the drums and theremin. \n\n\n\nShowtimes:El Jardin del Paraiso: Thursday June 20\, 8pm – Tix HERE ! \n\n\n\nThe Collective Womb is conceived and directed by Alexandra Neuman\, with Alexandra Neuman as Artistic Director\, Raychel Ceciro as Movement Director\, and Logan gabrielle Schulman as Stage Director and producer. \n\n\n\nPerformers include: Irisdelia Garcia\, Misha Volf\, Kiki Milner\, Nic Koller\, Teshale Nuer\, Hsiao-Chu (Julia) Hsia\, Blaze Hubbell\, Amanda Stambrosky\, Federica Cuzzaniti \n\n\n\nCostuming by Lagoon New York (Amalya Meira & Logan Blagg)

SUMMARY:ShavuART Workshop 2024
DESCRIPTION:We’re bringing back some of last year’s favorites and introducing you to community artists brand new to the ShavuART scene. That’s right: ShavuART is back! Join us for a festival celebration of art and learning filled with hands-on visual arts workshops led by local young adult artists! \nThe holiday of Shavuot (which begins on the evening of Tuesday\, June 11th)\, is traditionally celebrated by engaging in Jewish learning. At The Well\, we believe that tapping into your creative side is inherently full of learning – learning about yourself\, about the creative process\, and about the artistic techniques and tools you’re using! \nOur afternoon will include two rounds of workshops that you’ll select in advance (in a follow up survey after registration)\, plus a bonus learning session with Rabbi Jeff\, and of course\, snacks and drinks along the way!Note: The full list of workshops and facilitating artists will be available soon! \nDue to the generosity of donors\, subsidized tickets are available for $25 per person and include all art materials\, instruction from the artists\, and nosh. We never want cost to be a barrier to participation; if you’re interested in receiving financial assistance\, please reach out to Erica (erica@meetyouatthewell.org). \nThe Well expects all participants to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. For those who are not\, we ask that you wear a mask while in all indoor spaces. Of course\, masks are always welcome regardless of vaccination status. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1279150716804966/
