SUMMARY:The Magic of Moroccan Song
DESCRIPTION:Let’s share together the warmth\, flavors and sounds of a traditional Moroccan Friday night dinner\, for a full cultural and musical experience. \nJoin Dr. Yona A. Elfassi for a one-of-a-kind Moroccan singing workshop! Together\, we’ll dive into ‘Hiya Hiya\,’ one of Morocco’s most beloved songs\, telling the story of a woman in love. Through this song\, we’ll: \nExplore how love and desire are expressed in Moroccan music\nUnpack the lyrics and their cultural context\nSing together in Moroccan Arabic\nWe’ll also share a delicious homemade Moroccan Shabbat dinner!\nNo prior knowledge of Moroccan Arabic is required – just bring your voice\, curiosity\, and an open heart. \nGet ready to sing\, connect\, and fall in love with the rhythms and stories of Morocco! \nDr. Yona A. Elfassi is a Moroccan-born educator\, researcher\, and content creator whose work bridges cultures\, disciplines\, and continents. He has been based in Israel for the past decade. He holds a dual PhD in Middle East Studies (Ben-Gurion University\, Israel) and Sociology/ Anthropology (Sciences Po Bordeaux\, France). Yona’s work has taken him around the globe\, where he has been invited to lecture at leading universities and institutions. His academic journey transcends traditional boundaries\, driven by a belief that research should also build connections and foster understanding. Beyond academia\, he amplifies his impact through social initiatives\, public engagement\, and creative storytelling\, including short films. Dedicated to exploring the complexities of Muslim-Jewish relations\, the plurality of identities\, and the preservation of indigenous cultures\, Yona’s mission is to generate knowledge that inspires dialogue\, empathy\, and meaningful change across communities. \nWe are grateful to our event hosts\, partners and sponsors: FED\, The American Sephardi Federation\, Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network\, and Kanisse.

SUMMARY:J&B goes to Bryant Park
DESCRIPTION:The Bryant Park Winter Village just opened for the season\, and one of the new food vendors this year is 12 Chairs!! A few Jews & Brews members have messaged asking if I can organize a group outing. \nHere’s the plan: We will meet in front of the Public Library steps at 1:30 pm sharp\, then walk over to the food vendors as a group. After dining\, we will stroll around the holiday fair and pop into the Lodge for drinks. If you can’t make it to the Library at 1:30\, please plan to meet us near the 12 chairs booth (see the map link below) \nThey have a ton of different food options this year\, you are not required to only support 12 Chairs. Here’s the link to the map with the list of vendors at the bottom: https://bryantpark.org/downloads/holiday-shops-directory.pdf \nDisclaimers: NO Food or Drinks are included in your RSVP. You will be financially responsible for any items you choose to purchase at Bryant Park. The average ages that typically attend our events is 25-45. This is NOT a singles event\, and unsolicited messages might result in group removal. \nNote: I know NYConnect is having a brunch at 12pm on Nov. 8\, so I’m hoping starting this at 1:30pm will give people enough time to attend both if wanted. Here’s the NYConnect info (not affiliated with J&B): https://tinyc.org/nyconnect/
