SUMMARY:Pride Night at The Berlin Diaries
DESCRIPTION:Reception: 5:30 PM | Play Start Time: 7:30 PM \nJoin us for light refreshments preceding Andrea Stolowitz’s The Berlin Diaries. Each ticket holder will receive a complimentary glass of wine/soft drink or snack from the concessions stand. \nGet your ticket to the play here and make sure to use promo code PRIDE25 so you can get a discount and so we know you’re coming. \nAbout the Play:Oregon Book Award-winning playwright Andrea Stolowitz opens the pages of her great-grandfather’s journal to discover a previously unknown genealogy in The Berlin Diaries. How do you find home when a family history is scattered like the torn pages of a journal entry released to the wind? Two performers become generations of characters in an attempt to stitch together clues and restore memories formerly lost to time. \nHow do people become verschollen\, lost\, like library books\, leaving only the dusty outline – a life reduced to negative space? Stolowitz searches for clues that propel her forward and backward in time\, pursuing a family history formerly lost to war. In a breathtaking journey around the world\, what will remain lost and what will be found at the intersection of national history and private lives?

SUMMARY:Queer Rosh Chodesh Group: Adar
DESCRIPTION:The Queer Rosh Chodesh Group will draw on the tradition of feminist Rosh Chodesh gatherings to explore the themes of the upcoming Jewish month through a queer lens. This gathering\, led by Based-In DC’s Rabbi Avigayil Halpern\, will take place monthly on or before Rosh Chodesh\, the first day of the Jewish month\, and is open to all queer-identified Jews in their 20s and 30s. \nThe Queer Rosh Chodesh Group is co-sponsored by Based-In DC and EntryPointDC and GLOE at the EDCJCC. You can come to just one\, come every month\, or whenever suits your fancy. This discussion is for all queer Jews – whether Torah study is a regular part of your life or you’re brand new to it\, we want your wisdom in the conversation. \nThis month\, in honor of the upcoming masquerade holiday of Purim\, we’ll have a conversation (informed by Jewish texts) about gender as a space of joy and play! We will meet this month at Rav Avigayil’s home in Adams Morgan\, address upon RSVP.

SUMMARY:Papa Can You Hear Me: A Spectacular Screening of Yentl
DESCRIPTION:Join The Neighborhood for a special screening of Yentl–Barbra Streisand’s 1983 cinematic masterpiece\, featuring a live performance by Simply Barbra–the premier Barbra drag impersonator who brings the legendary diva to life with unmatched flair. Bonus points for showing up in a Yentl or Barbra-inspired costume! \nYentl tells the story of a young Jewish woman in Eastern Europe who disguises herself as a man in order to pursue her dream of studying torah—something forbidden to women at the time. Directed\, produced\, and performed by Barbra Streisand\, the film blends themes of identity\, love\, and self-determination. It’s a powerful (and campy!) exploration of gender\, tradition\, and the courage to follow one’s heart. To quote Barbra quoting Steven Spielberg\, “It’s the best film I’ve seen since Citizen Kane.” \nDon’t miss Simply Barbra\, who will have you saying “hello gorgeous!” as she channels the greatest star herself with all the glamour\, wit\, and vocal perfection you’d expect. This is more than just a movie night—it’s a celebration of Barbra’s legacy\, LGBTQ+ culture\, and the powerful messages of Yentl\, live from Barbra’s home borough of BK. Join us for an unforgettable evening of cinema and drag\, where the magic of Barbra Streisand is brought to life!
