SUMMARY:GLOE Chanukah Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Join GLOE for our annual Chanukah celebration at a DC landmark! DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next queer pizza party and movie screening in our cinema! We’ll be screening the film Kissing Jessica Stein. \nJessica (Jennifer Westfeldt) is at the end of her emotional rope. With conventional gender roles absent\, the two women proceed to muddle through an earnest but hilarious courtship\, making up the rules as they go. \nTimings:\n6.30pm – Pizza party\n7.15pm – Film starts \nThis is a safe space for queer Jews\, so whether you’re queer or just happy to be here\, come and join us! \nVegan pizza available upon request – please purchase the appropriate ticket.

SUMMARY:GLOE at JxJ: The Lavender Scare
DESCRIPTION:Join GLOE to attend the film The Lavender Scare\, the first documentary film to tell the story of an unrelenting campaign by the federal government in the 1950s to identify and fire all employees suspected of being homosexual. \nGet your ticket to the movie here and make sure to use promo code LAVENDER20 to get a 20% discount and to let us know you’re coming. \nAbout the Film:In 1953\, President Eisenhower declared gay men and lesbians to be a threat to the security of the country and therefore unfit for government service. In doing so\, he triggered the longest witch hunt in American history. Over the next four decades\, tens of thousands of government workers would lose their jobs for no reason other than their sexual orientation. But the actions of the government had an unintended effect. They inadvertently helped ignite the gay rights movement. \nPost-Screening ConversationAfter the film\, stay for a discussion with novelist and critic Thomas Mallon and Matt Nosanchuk\, formerly of the Office for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education in the Biden-Harris administration. Conversation moderated by Dr. Sarah Leavitt\, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Capital Jewish Museum.

SUMMARY:Embark Philly Queer Couples Cohort
DESCRIPTION:This fall Tribe 12 is teaming up again with Embark (a project of Mem Global) to offer Embark Philly Queer Couples Cohort: The Home We Build Together\, a 6-part series (Tuesday evenings) plus a retreat (Nov 7-9) and a Shabbat Dinner (Oct 17th) for couples seeking community and support as they make decisions about their spiritual lives. For the first time ever\, we are running a designated cohort for folks in the LGBTQIA+ community. The content will mostly be the same from the past cohorts\, but with a queer-normative lens. \nThis couples cohort will help build community amongst Jews and those who love them who are in a similar life stage in the Philly area. Sessions will include conversations about how to: celebrate holidays in your home\, navigate family dynamics\, create new traditions together and more! The cohort is open to all couples in committed relationships\, especially those from mixed-heritage & interfaith backgrounds. All sessions will be in person\, mostly at the Weitzman Museum. If cost is prohibitive please reach out to Rabbi Megan (megan@tribe12.org). \nSession Dates:\nTuesday nights 6:30-8:30\nKick off Sukkah Dinner October 7th (In Rabbi Megan’s Sukkah in Mt Airy)\nRegular session Oct 28\, Nov 4\, Nov 11\, Nov 18th and Dec 2 (at the Weitzman Museum in Old City)\nShabbat dinner Oct 17th (at Rabbi Megan’s house in Mt Airy)\nRetreat in the Poconos: November 7th-9th \nIf you cannot make these dates\, please note that queer couples are always welcome (and encouraged) to participate in the standard Embark cohort which will run again in early 2026. If you are not sure if this is the right group for you and your partner please reach out to Rabbi Megan (megan@tribe12.org).

SUMMARY:Queer Speed Mingling
DESCRIPTION:For Jewish queer folks looking for friendships\, relationships\, networking or all of the above! \nSpeed mingling is based on the format of speed dating\, but instead of looking for only romance\, participants are quickly introduced to many new people with the goal of making either friends\, romantic connections\, professional contacts\, or a combination of those things. We’ll use group games\, pairings\, and small groups to help you have fun and meet people! Think of it as a structured\, low-pressure way to meet lots of people in a short time. \nThis event is facilitated by Galia Godel\, the leader of Tribe 12’s queer tribe\, and Danielle Selber\, the founder of Tribe 12’s matchmaking program. \nNote that masks are required for this event! We will use an outdoor balcony space for some programming\, weather permitting. \n$5 includes a vegetarian dinner. No one will be turned away for lack of funds – email danielle@tribe12.org for an accommodation\, no questions asked. \n\n\n\n
