SUMMARY:Entree
DESCRIPTION:Is 2024 the year you take your leadership to the next level? Was that a yes? Awesome! Join us for the Jewish Federation’s NEXTGen Detroit 2024 Entrée Experience! \nOver four sessions\, we’ll introduce you to the Metro Detroit Jewish community and everything that NEXTGen Detroit has to offer. You’ll network with other young adults and community leaders and learn about local resources and programs to get involved and give back. \nSession 1: Getting to Know Federation \nMarch 19 | 6:30 – 8:30 PM \nUrbanrest Brewing Company in Ferndale \nWe’ll start with an intimate conversation with Federation’s CEO Steven Ingber\, NEXTGen Detroit Director Tomer Moked and NEXTGen Detroit President Jennie Maxbauer. Learn about Federation’s work as an umbrella organization that supports 17 local and overseas Jewish agencies. Drinks and refreshments will be served. \nSession 2: All About the Agencies \nMarch 26 | 6:30 – 8:30 PM \nFederation Building in Bloomfield Hills \nGet to know a few of our agencies and learn how they help support the Jewish community. You’ll spend time chatting with representatives from four agencies to better understand what they do and how. But first\, appetizers! \nSession 3: Where does the Money Go? \nApril 2 | 6:30 – 8:30 PM \nFederation Building in Bloomfield Hills \nFederation’s Annual Campaign raises millions of dollars to support local and international causes. But how do we decide who gets a piece of the pie and how much? In this session\, you’ll learn about Federation’s allocation process and take part in an exercise to see how you would distribute funds to those in need. Pizza and salad will be served. \nSession 4: What’s NEXT? \nApril 9 | 6:30 – 8:30 PM \nFederation Building in Bloomfield Hills \nWhy is Federation so invested in young adults? What’s YOUR next step to becoming a leader in our community? Hear more about how you can get involved with the Federation and NEXTGen Detroit and let us help you find a meaningful opportunity. Did we mention desserts? \nThank you to our 2024 Entrée Co-Chairs: \nNatalie Langnas\, Matthew Luckoff and Meredith Kay Rubenfire \nEntrée 2024 is intended to be a series of conversations\, so we ask that you attend all four sessions.

SUMMARY:Jewish Community Connection & Listening Circle
DESCRIPTION:In these challenging times filled with uncertainty for both Israelis and Palestinians\, we are feeling division across many parts of our lives. It is not surprising that horrific events have brought strong emotions and different reactions have emerged within our personal and professional circles\, making it hard to feel heard and to connect across difference. We know\, though\, that community matters most during especially difficult times. \nIn support\, we’re creating a space where friends and community members can share about what’s in your hearts and on your minds at this moment. The focus won’t be on ideological or political debates\, rather\, it’s an opportunity to share and to empathically listen to each other’s experiences. \nOur professionally trained facilitator(s) will provide a compassionate and empathic space through guidance and modeling. We’ll practice open and kind listening\, even if we disagree or have different experiences. We’ll facilitate connection in small groups\, with clear ground rules\, and there will be moments to share together as a larger group. \nJoin us in this shared space of understanding\, compassion and connection. \nWho is This For? \nFor this event\, we are especially guided by the Jewish value of K’lal Yisrael (כְּלָל יִשְׂרָאֵל) “Jewish community as a whole or Jewish inclusivity” as we strive toward pluralism. We want to be explicit in our invitation to members of Jewish community across the political spectrum. We want you here no matter your political position\, questions\, or activism and as long as you can respectfully and kindly participate in spaces of mixed affinity\, politics\, and listening. If you have questions about whether this event is for you\, you can email Carey at caverbook@jccsf.org. \nThis is for members of the Jewish community* who are all ages\, people who are practicing Jews\, who are reconnecting to Jewish life\, and who are connecting to Jewish identity for the first time. This is for Ashkenazi\, Sephardi\, and Mizrahi Jews and Jews with interfaith backgrounds. There will be optional affinity spaces for Jews of Color and for LGBTQIA+ Jews. \n*members of the Jewish community includes people who are Jewish\, Jew-ish\, married/partnered to a Jew\, raising Jewish family\, exploring conversion\, matrilineal and patrilineal Jews\, and those who regularly attend synagogue / Jewish community gatherings.

SUMMARY:Tribe 12 Israel Series: Sharing Ideas and Hopes Across Difference
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, we are committed to holding more space for our community to process as this war continues.\n\n\nIn December\, we hosted a space to come together as a community to process the current situation in Israel and Gaza. Our community\, as well as our staff\, is not monolithic – we contain a broad range of perspectives on this issue. In listening to these perspectives\, we have centered three core emotions echoing in our community: grief\, fear and hope. For this event we gathered as one community to break bread together and share a bit from our hearts. Then\, we offered a choice between three small group conversations\, each facilitated by a member of our staff\, that centered one of these three emotions. \nIn 2024\, we are committed to holding more space for our community to process as this war continues. We’ve decided to launch a monthly gathering\, rotating between grief\, fear and hope. Every session is drop-in and you can come to as many or as few as you feel called to attend. Our February gathering will be a conversation facilitated by Tribe 12’s Executive Director Rabbi Megan GoldMarche. This will be a space to talk constructively across differences about what should happen next\, about what actions you are taking and want to invite others to take to ensure peace and security in the region. You should come ready to share your thoughts\, listen to others and ask questions that help you better understand different perspectives.
