SUMMARY:Jewish Speed Dating: Board Game Edition
DESCRIPTION:After a bunch of you sent us Quirk’s board game speed dating event\, we asked them if they would do a Jewish version… and the nice Jewish boy who happens to run the company said YES! \nHere’s how it works: A gaming concierge walks you through several games over the course of the night. You play classics you love and discover brand new games you’ve never heard of\, playing each with a different group of fun singles. At the end of the night\, you give your gaming concierge a list of the folks you met that you’d like to date and a list of those you met that you’d like to just hang out with as friends. \nQuirk will also be advertising this to the (Jewish) folks in their own community so expect new faces and lots of fun. ***Hot tip: if you join their mailing list\, you will get a code for 50% off this event!***

SUMMARY:Tu B’Shevat Seder: Pathway to the Past and Road to the Future
DESCRIPTION:Join Base UWS to celebrate Tu B’Shevat: Judaism’s New Year of the Trees by digging into our family roots! We’ll begin at 8:00PM with our Tu B’Shevat Seder to explore the mystical qualities of fruits\, nuts\, and wine/juice. At 8:45PM\, we’ll dive deep into our roots with a presentation from professional genealogist Rudi Weinberg. \nPlease note that includes light snacks and drinks – not dinner. \nRegister here. \nPresentation Description: \nHave you ever wondered where your family came from\, whether the stories you grew up hearing were true\, or if your ancestry could open the door to foreign citizenship? This hands-on workshop is designed for anyone curious about their family’s past—and the real-world opportunities that discovering it can create. Participants will learn the fundamentals of genealogical research\, including how to build a family tree usingAncestry.comand how to trace ancestors through key historical records such as censuses\, immigration documents\, and ship manifests. You’ll gain the tools to begin tracing your family back to Ellis Island and beyond\, uncover long-lost relatives\, and separate family myth from historical fact. Whether you’re just starting your genealogy journey or exploring how ancestry connects to heritage\, identity\, and citizenship by descent\, this workshop will give you a practical foundation and a roadmap for continued discovery. \nRudi Weinberg is a professional genealogist who helps clients uncover their family’s stories through family trees\, records\, relationships\, and lived experience\, all without the need for DNA testing. Whether you’re mapping your ancestry\, applying for European citizenship by descent\, or planning a heritage trip\, Rudi approaches every project with care\, precision\, and personal investment. This isn’t just research. It’s a way to reclaim what’s been lost\, reconnect across generations\, and to the people it belongs with. \nAccessibility: There are eight steps leading up to Base UWS and an elevator to the first floor. \nAddress given upon registration. Please contact Rabbi Danny (danny.stein@memglobal.org) with any questions.\n—\nWe kindly ask that you do not come to events if you are feeling ill. We currently do not require Covid testing or face masks; we have face masks available for those who want one. \nWant to know more about Base UWS? SUMMARY:Good Jewdy: Tu Bishvat\, A Fruity Jewish Variety Show
DESCRIPTION:Brooklyn’s queer nightlife is blossoming for Tu Bishvat\, the Jewish New Year for the Trees\, and Good Jewdy is here to harvest a night of drag\, ritual\, and radical joy.  \nReturning to C’mon Everybody\, this variety show blends drag\, music\, live art\, and Jewish tradition through a campy\, unapologetically queer lens. Produced and hosted by Brooklyn-based drag artist Harsh Babe\, alongside Chava Goodtime\, Good Jewdy is part of an ongoing series centering how queer Jews are reclaiming minor Jewish holidays\, many historically tied to Israel\, through an explicitly anti-Zionist\, pro-Palestinian foundation.  \nFeaturing: Ella Yurman (Going Down TV)\, Julian Shapiro-Barnum (Recess Therapy\, Celebrity Substitute) leading a Jewish trivia game show\, Una Osato (Jewish Voice for Peace)\, Jenny Romaine (Jews For Racial & Economic Justice)\, live illustration by Molly Crabapple\, a musical comedy act by Esther Fallick of Vulture’s Comics You Should Know for 2025\, drag performances by Alvah Klempt and Julius Nicoy\, and a closing archival Yiddish techno set by Chaia.  \nThis edition also features an exciting\, fundraiser raffle! You’ll have a chance to win a bedazzled kippah\, a gift card from Edith’s BK\, a bag for schlepping by Susan Alexandra\, and more seasonal surprises. All proceeds support the United States Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) and the replanting of olive trees in Palestine 🌿.  \nDate: Sunday\, February 1\, 2026 | doors at 7\, shows at 8 PM ET  \nLocation: C’mon Everybody (325 Franklin Ave\, Brooklyn)  \nAdditional details: https://www.instagram.com/p/DTMJyEMjyiJ/  \nTicket link: https://dice.fm/event/92wooo-good-jewdy-1st-feb-cmon-everybody-new-york-tickets?lng=en-US

SUMMARY:Shabbat Exploration Series: Potluck Lunch & Singing Circle
DESCRIPTION:This is the January edition of our Shabbat Exploration Series! \nWe invite you to enjoy a potluck lunch and singing circle at a private home in Manayunk. The environment will be intentionally phone-free\, relaxed\, with the vibe of sitting around the table talking and singing Shabbat songs (no singing experience or prior song knowledge required). We will provide the main meal\, which will be vegetarian — please bring a side\, drink\, or dessert to share. \nLike every part of this series\, no prior experience is expected — the point is to try something new and not do it alone! You can sign up for just this one event as a drop in\, or join our Shabbat Exploration Series cohort to enjoy the full arc of programming. See below for details! \nShabbat is a day of rest\, joy\, and connection\, and there are many ways to experience it. Maybe you want a break from your phone for a day\, or even just for a few hours\, but that might feel lonely. Maybe you’ve been wanting to check out a synagogue in town\, but don’t want to go by yourself. Maybe you want to connect over a leisurely Shabbat lunch and songs with other people\, feeling like there’s nowhere you have to rush off to\, just being fully in the moment. \nThis is the inspiration for our Shabbat Exploration Series. One Saturday a month from January to June\, rotate between synagogue-based experiences and home/nature-based ones with other 20s and 30s. This is a chance to explore different ways of doing Shabbat to see what fits for you individually\, while also forming friendships with people who are doing the same. The experiences are open to people who currently have any level of Shabbat observance\, including zero experience\, and there is no end goal regarding how you observe. Tribe 12 Rabbinic Intern Adina Ikeman and Tribe 12 Director of Engagement(s) Danielle Selber will lead this program. \nParticipation options: \nDrop in to individual events: Just interested in one or two offerings? You can register for any individual event just like any other program. \n$5 for synagogue-based experiences (includes a meal)\n$10 for home- or nature-based experiences (includes a meal) \nJoin the cohort: Want the full experience? Join a cohort of people exploring what Shabbat means\, together. Cohort members are automatically registered for every program in the series (if you need to miss any\, that is totally fine). \n$54 covers all Saturday morning experiences\nCohort members have the added perk of attending a closing Shabbat dinner with Danielle and Adina! \nSchedule: (subject to change) \nSaturday\, January 31st: Potluck lunch and singing (Manayunk) \nSaturday\, February 21st: Synagogue experience (Society Hill Synagogue) \nSaturday\, March 21st: Shabbat lunch and walk (Wissahickon Park) \nSaturday\, April 11th: Synagogue experience (Rodeph Shalom) \nSaturday\, May 16th: Guided Shabbat hike (Northwest location TBA) \nSaturday\, June 6th: Synagogue experience (Center City location TBA) \nFriday\, May 29th: Closing Shabbat for cohort members (Location TBA) \nQuestions? Email danielle@tribe12.org or adina@tribe12.org! \nTribe 12 connects people in their 20s/30s to Jewish life and community in Philadelphia today so they will choose to stay connected tomorrow. We welcome people who identify as Jewish\, whose partner is Jewish\, or who are exploring Judaism. If you require any accommodations in order to fully participate in our programming\, please see our page on accommodations. If you require any financial assistance to participate\, contact us at info@tribe12.org.
