SUMMARY:Unkosher Comedy
DESCRIPTION:The first of our new series in collaboration with Brooklyn Comedy Collective\, Reid Pope hosts an array of “bad Jews” in an evening of jokes and nosh. Unkosher Comedy serves as a convenient excuse to tell your nagging family that you celebrated Shabbat\, all while having a drink and enjoying some seriously funny Jewish stand-up. \nThe Brooklyn Comedy Collective (BCC) is an alt comedy theater and school in East Williamsburg\, Brooklyn with a mission to produce irreverent\, fearless shows from a wide range of voices\, pay its artists\, and inspire students to approach performance from a place of joy and fierceness. \nReid Pope is a stand-up comedian\, playwright\, and Jew (despite the ironic last name) who’s been featured in PAPER\, Vulture\, and Boys With Plants Magazine. They serve as the Head Writer and Executive Producer of Late Stage Live: a trans-led monthly late night comedy news show on Brooklyn public access [read about it in Them and Jezebel].Jeremy O. Harris recently shortlisted Reid’s play amino amino amino amino amino amino amino amino amino for the 2024 Yale Drama Prize. Reid’s play Holocaust Lit! was selected for Fault Line Theatre’s “Irons In The Fire” (2024) and their play Cuntboy & Dickgirl (or: Biology Play) received the Parity Productions Award. Reid’s TV project Old Queens won the 2023 ATX TV Festival Pitch Competition. In 2022\, they were named a New York Comedy Festival Content Creator To Watch.

SUMMARY:Well\, Let's Talk Israel & T'shuvah
DESCRIPTION:As we mourn the tragic losses of Hersh Goldberg-Polin\, Eden Yerushalmi\, Carmel Gat\, Almog Sarusi\, Alexander Lobanov\, and Ori Danino\, The Well is holding a small group space on Saturday\, September 7th to share\, listen\, and see that you are not alone in asking hard questions. We will also be learning together about T’shuvah\, and how we can apply this idea to this moment in our lives and in the context of war. The only thing we promise is that we will not have all the answers\, and we commit to sharing space with openness\, curiosity\, and respect. \nTo best facilitate conversation\, this gathering will have limited capacity. If this session fills up\, we’ll open a waitlist and will find a date for a second session. Location will be in Royal Oak but exact address will only be emailed to registered participants the day before the program. This program is intended for young adults in their 20s and 30s. \nQuestions? Contact Rabbi Jeff at rabbijeff@meetyouatthewell.org \nPlease Note: This gathering is not a panel discussion or debate. By registering\, you are committing to bringing an open mind\, curiosity\, and respect when sharing space with others who you may not always agree with\, or who have a different life experiences than your own. We will ask that phones be put away so that we can be fully present together.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Hila Amram in conversation with Roxana Fabius
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of art and conversation with Peleh Residency Artist Hila Amram\, a Tel Aviv-based artist bridging the worlds of art and science. The Neighborhood Curator Roxana Fabius will lead a discussion about how the intertwining of biology\, chemistry\, and archaeology with art open unprecedented creative and destructive possibilities. \nHila Amram an Israeli-based multidisciplinary artist. Her work revolves around a continuous subjective research she conducts within her “artistic lab” which constitutes her creative space. Amram seeks to undermine the paradigms and typical practices within the respective fields of study\, at the same time revoking the\, some might say\, archaic hierarchy\, which strictly separates professional from hobbyists and sterile labs with strict sets of rules from centers with informal homely ambience which allow much improvisation. \nThe Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life is a Jewish community and cultural center in Brooklyn. We produce programs that raise up underrepresented perspectives and welcome the thousands of Brooklynites that have not yet found their Jewish home. We are creating a welcoming space that reflects the spirit of Brooklyn–future-thinking and deeply historical\, iconoclastic\, and sacred. \nThe Peleh Residency\, based in Berkeley\, CA and Brooklyn\, NY\, offers artists across all genres the time\, space and support to practice their craft. Designed to accommodate artists with families\, the residency provides a space apart for retreat\, reflection and art making\, and an opportunity to foster new collaborations\, audiences and connections.

SUMMARY:OBSERVANT
DESCRIPTION:Pamela Weiler Grayson’s New Play OBSERVANT to Headline Spark Theatre Festival NYC \nLimited Engagement runs September 12 – 28 at The Chain Theatre \nHow can we repair the world if we don’t repair ourselves? \nIn OBSERVANT\, three generations of women confront their relationships to their Jewish identities—and to each other. Comedy and tragedy entwine\, like a braided challah\, when a mass shooting in their community tests the bonds of faith and family. OBSERVANT will headline Emerging Artists Theatre’s Spark Theatre Festival NYC. Written by Pamela Weiler Grayson. \nOne of the themes that runs throughout the play is how to come to terms with and try to improve a violent and chaotic world\, when we can’t even seem to get along with our own families or communities\, or reconcile our own internal conflicts. The Jewish custom of  “Tikkun Olam\,” which translates into “repair the world” or “mend the world\,” reflects this deeply-held desire to make the world a better place\, even while we struggle with hatred and extreme tribalism. A very timely theme in our current global and national climate. \nWritten by Pamela Weiler Grayson \nDirected by Shellen Lubin \nProduced by Red Lyric Productions in Association with Adam Weinstock and Emerging Artists Theatre. \nThe cast features Yair Ben-Dor\, Arielle Flax\, Rebecca Hoodwin\, Arielle Beth Klein\,  and Melissa Wolff. \nThe creative and production team includes scenic design by Colleen Shea\, lighting design by David Castaneda\, sound design by Grady Gund\, and costume coordinator Sophia Dorio. \nPerformance schedule: \nThursday\, September 12 at 7pm \nSaturday\, September 14 at 7pm \nMonday\, September\, 16 at 7pm \nWednesday\, September 18 at 2pm \nThursday\, September 19 at 7pm \nSunday\, September 22 at 2pm \nTuesday\, September 24 at 7pm \nThursday\, September 26 at 7pm \nSaturday\, September 28 at 7pm
