SUMMARY:New Moon Circle - SIVAN For Jewish Women
DESCRIPTION:SIVAN Women’s Rosh Chodesh Circle – The Month of Revelation\n \nJoin us for a Women’s Rosh Chodesh Circle this SIVAN in downtown Boston at The Boston Synagogue — a warm\, welcoming space to connect\, reflect\, and explore the themes of the new moon & month through increasing joy\, renewal\, and shared intention. \nWHAT TO EXPECT:\nThe evening before erev Shavuot. The night before the Torah is given. \nI imagine standing at the foot of Sinai. The whole people gathered. The answer rising in every chest before the question was even finished: yes. We want the Torah. We will be a light to the nations. We will carry the Divine into the mundane world and make it holy — in every generation\, including this one. This is the energy of Sivan. And it is waiting for us. \nJoin us the evening before erev Shavuot as we gather in the spirit of that original yes — to learn\, to move\, to receive\, and to carry the light of the month of SIVAN into the days ahead. \nWe’ll connect as Jewish women while honoring this special time of lunar renewal. \nEnjoy light refreshments as we sing soulful songs and chant together\, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere. Join us for this Rosh Chodesh Circle and step into the joy\, unity\, and renewal that define the new moon and month. \nOpen to all Jewish women — come as you are 💚 \n \n–Rosh Chodesh Circle is a recognized as a Lay Leader led group by Hadar. \n \nThis gathering we will:\n\nDiscover the unique energy of Sivan and the pitfalls to navigate with awareness.\nExplore the meaning of the Hebrew letters that anchor the monthand how to work with their energy\nLearn the significance of the Tribe of Zebulun and what it carries for us today\nStudy the Kabbalistic teachings of the month through a women’s lens\nSit with Ruth & Naomi — the women whose story of loyalty\, return\, and chosen belonging is read every Shavuot\, and who have never felt more alive than right nowClose with an embodied movement practice — a gentle\, accessible Jewish yoga experience to carry the teachings into the body\, open to all regardless of physical ability\nThe evening includes candle lighting\, intention-setting\, and a guided kavvanah to carry into Sivan and Shavuot. All Jewish women are welcome no matter where you are on your journey— come as you are. No prior knowledge or experience required.\n\nWe’ll connect as Jewish women while honoring this special time of lunar renewal.\nEnjoy light refreshments as we sing soulful songs and chant together\, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere. \n \nAbout Rosh Chodesh Circle at The Boston Synagogue\nDid you know that Rosh Chodesh was given to women as their own special holiday? \nRosh Chodesh signifies the renewal of the moon and the start of a new month. According to tradition\, it was a reward to women for their devotion and wisdom during the Exodus and their refusal to participate in the creation of the Golden Calf. Instead\, they eagerly contributed their gold and jewelry to help build the Mishkan (Tabernacle)! \nJoin us to celebrate the new month with meaningful discussions that explore Jewish wisdom\, traditions\, rituals\, and blessings to honor Rosh Chodesh. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect and foster a supportive community— along with snacks and wine! \nWhat to Expect: \n\nThoughtful discussions on Jewish wisdom and traditions\nRituals and blessings to honor the new month\nOpportunities to connect and build a supportive community\nSnacks and wine\n\nWe can’t wait to celebrate with you! \nWe had a fabulous time celebrating the New Moon Nisan with our Jewish Community of Jewish Women in downtown\, Boston at The Boston Synagogue.

SUMMARY:Strength that Lasted Generations: The Story of Sam Zelinger
DESCRIPTION:Join us May 20th at the Center for Jewish History or virtually on Zoom for 3GNY’s first hybrid WEDU Wednesday as Elliot Zelinger shares the story of his grandfather\, Sam Zelinger. \nFor those in the NY area\, join us for a reception with Elliot at 7:30 prior to the program beginning at 8:00. For those unable to join in-person\, we look forward to seeing you on Zoom at 8:00pm! \nAbout Sam Zelinger: \nSam Zelinger was born in 1924 in Campulung La Tisa\, Romania\, the oldest of nine children\, and enjoyed a joyful childhood before the devastation of the Holocaust. While imprisoned in Auschwitz\, a chance encounter with his father gave him the strength and courage to continue surviving. After the war\, he immigrated to New York City to build a new life\, overcoming immense hardship with resilience and determination. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith\, family\, and generations who carry forward his story and strength. \nElliot recalls his grandfather Sam’s love of sour pickles and kosher salami\, as well as how important it was to him that his grandchildren keep the Jewish faith and traditions. Ever determined\, Sam also loved talking to Elliot about potential business opportunities!

SUMMARY:Shavuot: Bites & Bite-Sized Torah
DESCRIPTION:Join Rabbinic Intern Adina\, Rachel\, and Izzy for a night of delicious food and bite-sized Torah study at the Weitzman. We plan to serve a dairy-filled dinner in celebration of Shavuot. For our Torah study\, we ask that everyone chooses 1-2 verses (sentences) of Torah before the event that relate to their lives – whether it be their hobbies\, their values\, their job/school\, etc. During the program\, everyone will have a few minutes to teach their verse of Torah to small groups and explain how it relates to their life! If you don’t have time to prepare or don’t know where to begin to prep your verse\, we will have plenty available at the event that you can choose from. On Sefaria\, you can search by topic to find a verse that speaks to you!

Teens ages 12-18 are invited to volunteer with the Youth Action Institute. We will meet at the DC Central Kitchen located in southwest DC. SUMMARY:Dating\, Desire\, and the Divine
DESCRIPTION:Sex isn’t a topic we talk about in public very often\, and even less is said about how it intersects with spirituality. What does Judaism actually say about pleasure? Is sex a spiritual act? How do we navigate ethics in modern relationships—monogamy\, polyamory\, and everything in between? \nDrawing from the Torah\, the Talmud\, and contemporary voices\, Rabbi Jenna is your hookup to all your juiciest questions about hooking up. Explore how Jewish tradition has understood bodies\, desire\, boundaries\, and connection—and where it leaves room for reinterpretation and resistance. This is a space for honest conversation about how we build relationships\, what we want\, what we struggle with\, and what it might mean to bring intention or even holiness into those dynamics. \nNo one will be turned away from any of our classes due to lack of funds. For more information\, please contact our Jewish Life Associate\, Robyn Fishman\, rfishman@sixthandi.org \nPlease note: tickets are non-refundable.

SUMMARY:Senator Chris Murphy
DESCRIPTION:Sen. Murphy views the Trump administration’s assaults on democracy as a symptom of a deeper crisis: the abandonment of the common good as our country’s organizing principle. In Crisis of the Common Good: The Fight for Meaning and Connection in a Broken America\, he draws on history and political philosophy to expose how six different cults have paved the way to our current troubles: a cult of profit that punishes workers\, a cult of globalism that weakens communities\, a cult of technology that turns us against one another\, a cult of consumption that undermines citizenship\, a cult of credentialism that devalues those without degrees\, and a cult of corruption that threatens democracy. \nwith Politics and Prose Bookstore \nEvents at Sixth & I \n\nSeating is primarily general admission; first-come\, first-served.
