SUMMARY:Film Screening: The Righteous Man From Fulda
DESCRIPTION:In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day\, join the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center and the Goethe-Institut Chicago for a free screening of The Righteous Man from Fulda.\n\nThis compelling new documentary by Ethan Bensinger traces the filmmaker’s own family Holocaust history through the unlikely story of the two tablecloths that belonged to Hugo Sichel\, the filmmaker’s great uncle\, who lived in Fulda until his deportation in December 1941. Sichel gifted the tablecloths to his friend and non-Jewish neighbor Paul Römhild\, who had put himself and his family at risk to secretly supply Sichel with food. DESCRIPTION:Dreamwork Towards Freedom is a 3-part workshop series that explores text study\, art making\, and embodiment practices around a central question: How does the practice of dreaming — both while we’re awake and asleep — move us toward collective freedom? Using the Jewish Studio Process\, we’ll explore the role of dreaming in creating future worlds\, both as an abolitionist skillset as well as an ancient Jewish practice for ancestral guidance. \nThis workshop is created with the belief that we are all innately creative and have wisdom within us to share with the collective. DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, we are committed to holding more space for our community to process as this war continuesLast month\, we hosted a space to come together as a community to process the current situation in Israel and Gaza. Our community\, as well as our staff\, is not monolithic – we contain a broad range of perspectives on this issue. In listening to these perspectives\, we have centered three core emotions echoing in our community: grief\, fear and hope. For this event we gathered as one community to break bread together and share a bit from our hearts. Then\, we offered a choice between three small group conversations\, each facilitated by a member of our staff\, that centered one of these three emotions. In 2024\, we are committed to holding more space for our community to process as this war continues. We’ve decided to launch a monthly gathering\, rotating between grief\, fear and hope. Every session is drop-in and you can come to as many or as few as you feel called to attend.Our first session will be a grief circle facilitated by Tribe 12’s Rabbinic Intern Molly Paul. This is a space for all who are grieving\, whether that be for loss of life\, loss of beliefs\, loss of community\, or something else. This will be a space for all who want to be held in their grief. Together we will write and reflect\, read poetry\, and allow song and our voices to help us explore and make space for our grief.
