SUMMARY:An Evening at Detroit Public Theatre featuring Eight Nights
DESCRIPTION:Join NEXTGen Detroit for an evening at Detroit Public Theatre! We have tickets to see the award-winning\, critically acclaimed play by Jennifer Maisel\, Eight Nights. Eight Nights takes audiences on a profound journey alongside Rebecca Blum\, a German Jewish Holocaust survivor who arrives in New York in 1949 at the age of 19. We travel with Rebecca through eight nights of Hanukkah celebrated over many decades\, and bear witness to both her resilience and her struggles as she builds a life\, a family and a diverse community of loved ones. We hope you will join us for this unique and important theatrical experience\, as well as support the Detroit Public Theatre. \n7 PM: Pre-Glow \n8 PM: Show \n$25 per person includes your first drink at the Pre-Glow and the play. \nFree parking is available adjacent to the theater. Street parking is also available. \nSeats are limited. Please RSVP. \nThank you to our event co-chairs: \nSharon Fass \nStephanie Hollander \nAlyse Waldhorn \nAs we continue to stand with Israel during this devastating and tragic time\, we recognize that it is essential for us to continue to come together as a Jewish community. Any opportunity to strengthen our Jewish bond\, with each other and with the Jewish people in Israel and around the world\, is important now more than ever.

SUMMARY:Effective Altruism and Judaism Shabbat Dinner - 10/27 - Pico-Robertson\, LA
DESCRIPTION:Social-impact Shabbat Dinner\n\n\nSocial impact Shabbat dinner – Pico-Robertson\, Los Angeles – 10/27 – https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1uGuhHi everyone! I’m excited to be organizing an Effective Altruism and Judaism Shabbat Dinner with Yael Friedman this Friday night (10/27) in LA! The dinner is being organized in partnership with Effective Altruism for Jews (EAforJews.org)\, a global community of Jews coming together to help tackle the world’s most pressing problems effectively. At the dinner\, we hope to explore questions such as: \n\nWhat do Jewish texts and tradition have to say about our obligations to the global poor\, animals\, and future generations?\nIs there a uniquely “Jewish” approach to doing good?\nHow should we balance concern for Jewish priorities vs. global priorities?\n\nPlease RSVP on OneTable to attend: https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1uGuhTo stay up to date on future dinners or express interest in one of our other programs\, you can fill out this super quick expression of interest form\, join our FB group\, and/or subscribe to our newsletter!

SUMMARY:Two people\, one womb: The Jews of Italy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dynamic interactive journey through the rich history story of the Jews of Italy\n\n\nJews have been living in Italy since the last centuries before Christ\, even before the destruction of the second Temple. They’ve adopted local music\, food\, language\, style and customs. There have been tough times\, but overall it is a story of co-existence and mutual respect. We’ll explore the history of Jews during the Roman Empire\, the Middle Ages\, the ghettos of Venice\, Mantua and Rome through emancipation\, World Wars and the present day. We’ll discover language\, poetry\, music\, theatre\, liturgy and – of course – cuisine. \n\n\n\nAbout Miriam \nMiriam Camerini was born in Jerusalem and grew up in Milan\, Italy. A graduate from the Paolo Grassi Acting School of Milan and the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem\, she’s a rabbinical student at Beit Midrash Har’El\, one of the first orthodox yeshivas to ordain women rabbis. Theatre director\, writer\, singer and actress\, Miriam worked as assistant director with director Cesare Lievi at the Opera House in Zürich and with director Lorenzo Arruga at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. She’s the founder and artistic director of Benhashmashot\, the first professional Jewish Theatre in Italy\, based in Milan. A journalist and published author\, Miriam\, after years of interfaith work in dialogue and research\, published a book about food and religion\, Ricette e Precetti (Giuntina\, Firenze 2019).
