Our moderate route begins with an ascent of the Culver City stairs and continues to the MLK memorial obelisk in Kenneth Hahn State park. The hike is 5 miles round trip with ~900 ft of elevation gain and is expected to take two and three quarters hours. \nIn accordance with Sinai Temple’s COVID-19 protocols (https://www.sinaitemple.org/covid-19/)\, please stay home if you are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms or have been directly exposed to someone with Covid-19. \nBring: At least two liters of water\, good hiking shoes\, long pants\, sun protection (sunscreen\, hat)\, layered clothing\, a snack\, and of course a big smile on your face! \nMeeting Point/Parking: Meeting Point/Parking: Meet at the trailhead at the intersection of Jefferson Blvd and Hetzler Rd near 6050 Jefferson Blvd\, Culver City\, CA 90232. DESCRIPTION:Join us in this journey to discover the  rich and extensive history of the Jews of Jamaica.\n\n\n\nThe history of Jews in Jamaica is rich and extensive. The first wave of arrivals were escaping the Inquisition. Among the latest immigrants were European refugees running away from Nazism. Today the Jewish community is very connected with the local Jamaican population. Only one active synagogue remains\, the sand floored Shaare Shalom\, which hosts the United Congregation of Israelites in Kingston. Though the community today is but a fraction of its former size\, its impact on Jamaica endures. \nAbout Rivka \nRivka Rivka is a Canadian Jew whose parents immigrated from Jamaica. She is the co-founder of Jews of Colour – Canada\, the Executive Director for Beth Tikvah Synagogue and a Board Member of the North American Association of Synagogue Executives (NAASE). Rivka is a recognized speaker and educator on Jewish Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

See you there!\n\n\nJoin hundreds of your neighbors for a community-wide day of Tikkun Olam (repair of the world) as part of a national day of service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. \nThis intergenerational event will feature a range of hands-on service projects; participants will work in small groups on projects addressing issues of poverty\, hunger\, housing and homelessness\, aging\, the environment\, and more. Open to all ages! \nFeaturing projects for individuals & families! Children under 14 must be accompanied by adults. Projects are happeing at the OFJCC\, Hausner Day School\, Mitchell Park and other satelite locations across Palo Alto and East Palo Alto. \n \nContinue to Registration page for the list of all available projects and their locations. \nRegistration is free but is required. Donations are suggested to help us cover the cost of supplies. \n \nPlease note: If a project is marked full\, please choose another project.
