DESCRIPTION:Come join ATID on Sunday\, February 11th at 9:45 AM for a 4 mile (round-trip) hike! We would love to have you there!\n\n\nJoin ATID on Sunday\, February 11th at 9:45 AM for a 4 mile (round-trip) hike with 775 feet elevation gain to the Backbone Bridge from Will Rodgers State Park!  The hike features views of Santa Monica and much of the westside and is expected to take about two hours. \nIn accordance with Sinai Temple’s COVID-19 protocols (https://www.sinaitemple.org/covid-19/)\, please stay home if you are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms or have been directly exposed to someone with Covid-19. \nBring: At least two liters of water\, good hiking shoes\, long pants\, sun protection (sunscreen\, hat)\, layered clothing\, a snack\, and of course a big smile on your face! \nTransportation/Parking: Use GPS Coordinates 34.0543\, -118.5133.  Parking is $12 in Will Rodgers State Park.  Limited free roadside parking is available just outside the park entrance.  Or take the 602 bus from Westwood to Sunset/Evans and follow the Sunset Trail (see map: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ny2mbkim4gw27pn/200216map.jpg) to our meeting point. \nDogs: Unfortunately\, dogs are not allowed on all sections of our route. \nQuestions? We’re thinking about questions like these: Does in group solidarity inhibit or inspire empathy towards the other? What is the dynamic between group loyalty and empathy? How do we balance our care for those close to us and our moral obligations towards those who are farther away?We will look at several models of Jewish particularism and universalism in an attempt to explore whether a love of one’s own lies in contrast to or compliments a love for the other.  \nWe’ll be joined by Shalom Hartman Institute Senior Faculty and Rabbi Shoshana Cohen. She has completed advanced studies at Hebrew University\, Matan and the Hartman Institute and has rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Daniel Landes.
