SUMMARY:Lunch & Listen. Faces of October 7th.
DESCRIPTION:Federation’s Israel & Overseas Department and the JCRC/AJC welcome you to join us for Lunch & Listen to hear the story of Millet Ben-Haim\, a survivor of the massacre at the Nova Music Festival in Re’im. Millet will be joining us in person to share her account of events that took place on that fateful day. \nIn the wake of the harrowing events of October 7\, the world grappled with the aftermath\, surrounded by a haze of misinformation that clouded the truth. In an era dominated by secondary sources\, the “Faces of October Seventh” project emerged as a clarion call for authenticity and connection. This initiative stands as a testament to the power of firsthand narratives\, aiming to cut through the noise and bring the voices of survivors directly to communities and campuses across North America. \nBen-Haim is an educator\, plans workshops and parties\, and works as a DJ. During her summers she worked at a camp for children with special needs in New York. She believed\, and still does\, in the power of love and in spreading light as a way of life. \nA light lunch will be provided.

SUMMARY:Turkish Jews: Jewish legacy in Anatolia and today's Turkey
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dynamic interactive journey through Turkey’s rich Jewish history.\n\n\nThe history of the Jews in Anatolia started 2400 years ago with the arrival of Romaniot\, Mizrahim and Karaits followed later by Ashkenazim and Sephardic Jews. We will examine ancient synagogues\, Jewish settlements and cemeteries belonging to different eras and traditions\, as well as important events of WWI and WWII. Sephardic cuisine\, music\, Judeo Spanish language\, ethnographic and liturgical objects from the museum collection will be explained. SUMMARY:CMF & JSC Shabbat Dinner to support Soroka Medical Center
DESCRIPTION:CMF & JSC Shabbat Dinner for the Soroka Medical Center in Israel \nCMF x JSC have teamed up to organize a Shabbat dinner at Tribeca Synagouge. This dinner will serve as a fundraiser for a hospital in Israel\, as a large portion of your ticket will be donated to help the hospital. The hospital we decided to help is The Soroka Medical Center\, located in Be’er Sheva and treating hundreds of severely wounded. \nThe Shabbat Dinner is for young Jewish professionals in their 20s\, 30s\, and 40s. (Suggested age: 25-45). There will be an optional service beforehand. If you would like more details about the service\, please email: info@tribecasynagogue.org \nAmerican Friends of Soroka \nSoroka Medical Center is front and center in providing a medical response to the war. Soroka is a strategic asset for the IDF and closely coordinates with Israel’s military and civilian leadership to meet the developing needs in this crisis. Soroka has already treated over 700 patients\, approximately 130 of whom are in critical condition. For now\, the hospital has suspended elective procedures and treatments. Soroka’s dedicated staff is rendering life-saving care around the clock\, displaying unwavering resilience in the face of personal loss and fear. Your support is essential to helping Soroka meet this critical demand and to ensure the acquisition of essential medical equipment. \nAmerican Friends of Soroka Medical Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the outstanding medical care and breakthrough research at Soroka Medical Center\, the leading medical center in Israel and the only major hospital in southern Israel\, the country’s fastest-growing and most diverse region. Read more about them here –> https://www.soroka.org/about-us/ \nCall Me Friday ( CMF ) \nMichael and Julia started “Call Me Friday” or “CMF” as a way to stay connected to Young Jewish Professionals (YJPs) in New York City. In early 2019\, Mike and Julia attended a Shabbat dinner on the Upper West Side. They looked around the room and didn’t know a single person at the event. They said “Let’s change that.” In February 2019\, CMF was born as a WhatsApp group chat dedicated to sharing YJP events around the city. CMF has now grown to over 300 people solely through referrals and meeting new members in person. CMF is a way for YJPs to stay connected between the Shabbat dinners and holiday events. CMF is for friendships\, networking\, and even a CMF wedding (Julia met her husband\, David\, through the community)! CMF provides a medium for members to find a friend or a group of friends to attend Jewish events together. Our hope is that members won’t feel out of place like Mike and Julia felt at the Shabbat dinner on the Upper West Side. \nContact us at: callmefridaycmf@gmail.com\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/callmefridayCMF \nJewish Social Community ( JSC ) \nJSC is a community for young Jewish professionals (focused on 25-45 years old) that live/work/play in NYC area who want to connect with like-minded individuals through Jewish/social gatherings in and around the city. We focus on events that are targeted to people that are secular/conservative/reform. Our goal is to create an inclusive\, fun\, and safe space to coordinate and go to Jewish and related events that are relevant to our community. We have an 800+ (and growing!) WhatsApp Community including a collaborative event tracker and interest/age specific sub-groups. \nLearn more about us here –> https://jewishsocial.nyc/about-us/\nor follow us on Instagram here –> https://www.instagram.com/nycjewishsocial/
