SUMMARY:RCS: One Wow Moment
DESCRIPTION:How do we empower ourselves to make courageous and meaningful decisions? \nThe Rosh Chodesh Society’s upcoming course\, One Wow Moment\, takes a scholarly peek at pivotal moments of personal decision within the lives of seven women of biblical fame\, and investigates the psychology and internal strengths that propelled these women\, with remarkable effectiveness\, across chasms of doubt and timidity. Recognizing that modern life rears a rapid series of crossroads bearing mixed signals\, this course is a valuable and intriguing guide to exerting confidence\, courage\, empowerment\, altruism\, and deeper purpose when faced with unexpected opportunity\, personal dilemmas\, and moments of consequential decision. \nLearn more and register: https://www.chabadbocabeaches.com/rcs \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/7223673220993510/?event_time_id=7223673227660176

SUMMARY:Israeli Film Series: My Daughter My Love
DESCRIPTION:In his most recent film performance\, Sasson Gabai (The Band’s Visit\, Karaoke) offers an immensely moving performance as Shimon\, an Israeli who arrives in Paris to visit an old friend and spend time with his daughter\, who has settled there with her husband and child. Once he begins to sense that something is wrong with her marriage\, Shimon gets drawn into a secret life he never would have predicted. The subject of a recent retrospective at the Jerusalem Cinematheque\, director Eitan Green (It All Begins at Sea\, American Citizen) offers a sensitive examination of familial relationships that lives up to the best films of his forty-five year career. It is a film “about growing up late in life—and finding it is never too late.” (Eitan Green) The film also stars Sivan Levy\, Albert Iluz and Evelin Hagoel. \nCOUNTRIES ISRAEL\, FRANCE\nYEAR 2023\nRUNNING TIME 96 MIN\nLANGUAGES FRENCH\, HEBREW\nSUBTITLES ENGLISH\nDIRECTOR EITAN GREEN

SUMMARY:Volunteer with DC Central Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:Each year at the Passover seder\, we read aloud\, Kol dichfin yay-tay v’yay-chol (Let all who are hungry come and eat). As we prepare for eight days of forgoing chametz (foods with leaven) to symbolically represent our past oppression\, we’re also reminded that there are those in our city who still struggle with food insecurity. \nVolunteer for a food prep shift with DC Central Kitchen and support its mission to combat hunger in our city by bringing nutritious meals where they’re needed most. Advance registration is required and spots are limited\, so please only sign up if you are able to attend for the duration of the volunteer shift.

SUMMARY:Brooklyn Fiddle Summit
DESCRIPTION:Deep fiddle traditions from New York City! \nBlack String Band legends The Ebony Hillbillies\, and rising Klezmer star Zoë Aqua bring the noise and the sweetness for a night of virtuosity\, joy and unstoppable dance party energy. \nThe fiddle is a common denominator to two major musical traditions in New York City: the Jewish Klezmer style and African American folk music. On April 11\, come celebrate the instrument and the Brooklyn communities it represents. \nThe Brooklyn Fiddle Summit is curated by Jeremiah Lockwood and presented by The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life. \nAbout the performers: \nTHE EBONY HILLBILLIES started out as an NYC street corner phenomenon\, but their vibe and influence has extended over the years to acclaimed live performances at legendary venues like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center; appearances on the BBC\, Good Morning America\, NBC\, CBS\, etc.\, international music workshops and festivals\, visual artist collaborations at museums (including The Whitney with phenom Kara Walker and The Smithsonian Museum)\, guest school programs\, foot stomping and hand-clapping dance parties and more. While formed in the digital era\, they have sold thousands of hard copies of their four CDs – Sabrina’s Holiday (2004)\, I Thought You Knew (2005)\, Barefoot and Flying (2005) and Slappin’ A Rabbit – Live! (2015) – at their shows and via their globally popular website. The Ebony Hillbillies are currently in the studio working on their next project. \nZOË AQUA is a fiddler\, teacher\, and composer\, who has recently returned from a 2-year stint studying Transylvanian folk music on a Fulbright grant in Romania. She’s excited to share some of the raw\, rich and unpredictable tunes she learned from musicians there\, as well as her original compositions based on klezmer and Transylvanian music. She’ll be joined by Ira Temple (accordion) and Zoe Guigeno (bass)\, longtime collaborators of Zoë’s in the rad-trad band Tsibele and respected performer/composers in Brooklyn’s music scene.

SUMMARY:Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema: “Generation 1.5”
DESCRIPTION:Join CFIC for a live screening of the unforgettable documentary Generation 1.5 at the 19th annual Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema!  Screening on April 13th at 8:45PM! \n“The massive Aliyah of over one million people from the former Soviet Union during the 1990’s has left an indelible mark on Israeli society– especially in high tech\, medicine\, sports and the arts.  However\, their absorption was not without challenges\, sacrifices and discrimination.  Three decades later\, the film captures the profound perspective of “generation 1.5”: those who were born in the USSR and immigrated to Israel as children or teenagers.

SUMMARY:Chicago festival of Israeli Cinema: “Children of Nobody”
DESCRIPTION:Spend an afternoon at the 19th annual Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema! Come and see the drama film Children of Nobody on April 14th at 1PM! \n“For generations\, altruistic surrogate mother\, Margaret (Tiki Dayan)\, provided loving refuge to young boys– victims of neglect and violence– in a shabby house in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood of Tel Aviv.  When tragedy strikes\, it’s up to right-hand man Jackie (Roy Assaf) to keep the home from corrupt property developers.  Inspired by a true story.”
