SUMMARY:Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema: “Generation 1.5”
DESCRIPTION:Join CFIC for a live screening of the unforgettable documentary Generation 1.5 at the 19th annual Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema!  Screening on April 13th at 8:45PM! \n“The massive Aliyah of over one million people from the former Soviet Union during the 1990’s has left an indelible mark on Israeli society– especially in high tech\, medicine\, sports and the arts.  However\, their absorption was not without challenges\, sacrifices and discrimination.  Three decades later\, the film captures the profound perspective of “generation 1.5”: those who were born in the USSR and immigrated to Israel as children or teenagers.

SUMMARY:Chicago festival of Israeli Cinema: “Children of Nobody”
DESCRIPTION:Spend an afternoon at the 19th annual Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema! Come and see the drama film Children of Nobody on April 14th at 1PM! \n“For generations\, altruistic surrogate mother\, Margaret (Tiki Dayan)\, provided loving refuge to young boys– victims of neglect and violence– in a shabby house in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood of Tel Aviv.  When tragedy strikes\, it’s up to right-hand man Jackie (Roy Assaf) to keep the home from corrupt property developers.  Inspired by a true story.”

SUMMARY:Heschel’s Passover Eve at Chicago Loop Synagogue

SUMMARY:Explore Israel's Resilience: Wine-Tasting Event with Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM)
DESCRIPTION:RSVP: https://access.yjp.org/e/jhgp_2m \nIsrael’s Wine Diplomacy with Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) \nWe extend an invitation to an evening that explores the unexpected alliance between wine\, warfare\, and the battle against hate. This event will feature selections from extraordinary wineries\, many of which have felt the impact of Israel’s security challenges firsthand. We aim to narrate the story of a rejuvenated world\, rooted deeply in its heritage and its people\, through the lens of wine. \nThe Israeli wine industry weaves a captivating narrative of ancient heritage intertwined with modern innovation\, exemplifying Israel’s connection to history and its forward-thinking spirit through viticulture. Historically\, Israel was among the world’s leading wine producers 3\,500 years ago\, renowned for its exceptional grape cultivation. However\, with the arrival of Muslim invasions\, vineyards gave way to olive groves until the establishment of Israel\, when viticulture was revitalized. Leveraging Start-Up Nation technologies\, Israel’s wine industry burgeoned from 90 wineries in the 1990s to over 400 today. \nThese wineries\, spanning from north to south\, often find themselves on the frontlines of national defense. Many owners have been summoned for reserve duty\, and since October\, the industry has faced significant losses yet has shown remarkable resilience. Wine holds a sacred place in Jewish history\, integral to religious rituals and now serving as a beacon of hope. \nLeading this unique initiative are CAM CEO Sacha Roytman and CAM Director of Community Engagement Shira Granot\, with the Israel Wine Collection (IWC) at the forefront. The IWC project illuminates the rich tapestry of Israel’s history and its innovative essence through its wine making\, showcasing selections from over 30 wineries.

SUMMARY:Young JW3: Exploring the Exodus Through Jewish Meditation
DESCRIPTION:The Pesach Haggadah instructs each person to see themselves as if they personally came out of Egypt. How can we tap into this feeling of freedom in our often fast-paced lives\, with all its challenges and commitments? \n\n\n\nJewish meditation invites us to experience Pesach from the inside. If we accept the invitation\, the festival becomes more than the recollection of an event long ago and far away – it becomes something very real that we can experience here and now. \n\n\n\nJoin Zac Newman\, Community Director of HaMakom (the UK’s centre for Jewish meditation)\, as he explains the connection between Pesach and meditation. This session will include: \n\n\n\n\nAn introduction to Jewish meditation\n\n\n\nA guided meditation\n\n\n\nConcrete practices to take away with you\n\n\n\nQ&A\n\n\n\nOpportunity to talk with others\n\n\n\n\nZac has been teaching meditation for over a decade\, including in workplaces\, retreats\, conferences\, schools and a wide variety of other venues. In addition to his teaching for HaMakom\, Zac also teaches for Or HaLev and the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. He is a long-time teacher of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme. Zac trained to teach through the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University. He has spent extensive time on retreat. \n\n\n\nFor those in their 20s and 30s.
