SUMMARY:Access: Stained Glass Verbal Description Tour
DESCRIPTION:This tour of the Museum at Eldridge Street’s stained glass windows is designed for people who are blind or have low vision. \nStained glass windows bring beauty\, light\, air\, and grandeur to any space. Our synagogue is no exception. Since the Eldridge Street Synagogue opened in 1887\, our stained glass windows\, from the historic Rose Window to the modern East Window designed by Kiki Smith and Deborah Gans\, have been a central design feature of the building. Join the Museum’s Senior Manager for Education and Accessibility\, Scott Brevda\, for a special verbal description tour of the Synagogue’s stained glass windows and explore their role in one of the most historic synagogues in the United States. \nPlease see the Zoom link in your order confirmation email. This program is entirely virtual. \nYou can register online or by emailing access@eldridgestreet.org.

SUMMARY:Jacob the Liar (Jakob der Lügner) – Free Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Dir. Frank Beyer\nGermany\, 1974\nDVD\, 101 min \nIn 1974\, Frank Beyer brought to life a poignant narrative set during the dark days of the Second World War with the film Jacob the Liar. Shot against the backdrop of the political and social tumult of the era\, the production of the film faced numerous challenges\, including recreating the harrowing conditions of the Jewish ghettos and maintaining historical accuracy. \nThe film is set in a Jewish ghetto in Poland in 1944. It centers on Jacob Heym\, a Jewish shopkeeper who is mistakenly believed to have access to news from the outside world. In an effort to uplift the spirits of his fellow ghetto prisoners and provide them with hope\, Jacob fabricates stories about the potential ending of the war and the imminent arrival of the Allies. These tales of hope and optimism\, however\, come with grave consequences when they catch the attention of Nazi authorities. Jacob finds himself navigating a dangerous path\, torn between maintaining the facade of being a bearer of good news and the harsh reality of life in the ghetto under Nazi occupation and terror. \nJacob the Liar is a deeply moving and thought-provoking film that offers an evocative portrayal of human courage\, compassion\, and the enduring quest for hope in the darkest of times. The film received several awards\, including a Silver Bear for Best Actor awarded to Vlastimil Brodský\, and it was the only East German film to be nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. \nAdvanced registration is required\, and please bring a photo ID for check-in.

SUMMARY:Zoom Event for Torah Observant Singles Ages 29-44 July 21st at 2pm EST
DESCRIPTION:People have found new connections by meeting people “live” on Zoom. The break-out rooms are not speed-dating. They are an opportunity to meet many potential matches  in a relaxed\, moderated atmosphere. Some of the most amazing and unexpected matches come from these types of events. If you haven’t yet tried this method of meeting new people\, give it a try. \n\n\n\nThis Zoom event on July 21\, 2024 at 2pm EST is those aged 29-44 who are Torah Observant singles (Modern Orthodox\, Yeshivish\, Lubavitch and Chassidish).  \n\n\n\nCost:   Tickets are $30 if you are a current paid member of SYAS or a partner site if you register by July 19th in EST time.  After July 19th\, the tickets are $40. There is a $4.95 surcharge if you are not a current paid member on Saw You at Sinai or a partner site.  \n\n\n\n*Please note that in order for your application to get properly submitted\, your Saw You at Sinai or partner site profile that you are using to apply for this event must be in active status (ie your profile must not be “inactive.”)  Please continue to keep your profile in active status after you apply and for a few weeks after the event so that we can do match follow up for you!*FAQ \n\n\n\nQ. Can you tell me more about how the evening is structured?A.  Sure! There will be break out rooms where singles will get the opportunity to meet each other and indicate if there is interest. Based on your feedback on the event participants\, Laurie Young and Kim Solomon will try to make match suggestions. Watch this 2 minute video for more details about the break out rooms.  After this video\, there is a playlist of Feedback Review Videos from previous participants of Zoom Dating Events so you can hear what actual guests had to say.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6fdx733cb0&list=PLthLtQSByLIfa_2_ivlm0LPtRaKYnArjL&index=1 \n\n\n\nQ. After I apply for the event\, how long until I find out if I am accepted? \n\n\n\nAcceptances are generally sent out no later than 2 days before the event.  \n\n\n\nQ. How will I know if I successfully applied and was accepted to the event? \n\n\n\nThis is a two step email process. First your credit card payment is acknowledged but not charged when you apply. If you are accepted to the event\, your card will be charged and you will be notified that you were accepted. \n\n\n\nQ. Do I need to have a Saw You at Sinai profile to register for this event?A. You need to have either a Saw You at Sinai or a partner site profile to register for this event. (A basic or limited profile is okay to use to apply for the event.) You can create a SYAS or partner site profile for this event if you do not already have one. To have an inactivate old profile reactivated or for further questions about this\, please contact Kim Solomon at zoomdating@sawyouatsinai.com for help.Q. Do I have to pay when I register?A. You must enter your credit card information to be considered for the event. You will NOT actually be charged unless you are accepted to the event. When you complete the registration application\, there will only be a pre-authoirzation charge that will clear and an “authorization” receipt will be emailed to you but the charge will not actually be processed unless you are accepted to the event. \n\n\n\nQ. Will I automatically be included in the eventif I register and enter my credit card information?A. Events are limited in size and will be curated for the most compatible group. Not everyone who registers will be able to attend.  You will receive a notice whether you are accepted or not within a couple of days of the event (sometimes sooner)\, unless you apply closer to when the event begins. \n\n\n\nQ. When should I apply for this event? We recommend that you apply for the event as soon as possible because sometimes we get sold out days before the event. In addition\, please note that if you apply the day of the event than even if we are not sold out than we might not be able to get you registered in time. \n\n\n\nQ. How long will this event last?A. Zoom Dating Events generally run about 1 and 1/2 hours.  \n\n\n\nQ. Can I have a refund if I cancel?A. If you let us know 48 hours before the event that you are not able to come and you request a refund then we can issue you a refund. \n\n\n\nQ. If I am accepted into the event\, when will I receive the Guide to the Event (Zoom link\, questions asked at the event and other information)?A. You will receive the Guide to the Event by email 1 to 2 days before the event. \n\n\n\nQ. Is there an RSVP date?A. No\, but we sometimes sell out of men’s or women’s tickets so the sooner you apply\, the more likely you are to get accepted. We tend to prioritze applications in the order in which they were received. \n\n\n\nMore questions: Please contact Kim Solomon at zoomdating@sawyouatsinai.com or Laurie Young at 929-399-5593.

SUMMARY:Young JW3: Beach Picnic and Performance
DESCRIPTION:Come hang out with us for an evening of fantastic music\, mingling\, and light refreshments on the beach. \n\n\n\nBertie will be performing a mix of well-known crowd favourites along with his own original music. It’s the perfect opportunity to relax\, make new friends\, and enjoy some great tunes. \n\n\n\nBring your friends or come solo – either way\, you’re sure to have a blast! \n\n\n\nLight refreshments will be provided\, with additional food and drink available for purchase. We are a supervised kosher venue\, which means no outside food may be brought in. \n\n\n\nBertie has been making music since he can remember. As a kid\, any opportunity to make sounds – drumming with my pencils\, plucking an elastic band in a tune\, beatboxing\, singing in choirs\, making up songs with my sister – he took. And nothing has really changed\, except now\, he’s a little taller. A couple of years ago\, he quit his city desk job to pursue his passion full time. Since then he’s played over 100 gigs at places like Ronnie Scott’s and Glasto\, had over 200\,000 streams\, and a lot of fun. He writes indie pop songs that people can hear once and sing along to\, and adores choruses and hooks that people can sing together\, again and again; melodies that unite people in joy.https://linktr.ee/bertiesongs

SUMMARY:Hadassah Chicago-North Shore Summer Series: Am Israel Chai!
DESCRIPTION:Registration required to attend. No walk-ins will be permitted. \nJoin us this summer to learn effective tools for addressing the complex questions facing us today and to celebrate the creativity and hope of the Jewish people and Israel. \nWednesday July 24: Create vibrant Jewish art with Artist Roslyn (Ros) Smith and Mosaic Artist Chantal Blaustein \nOn her Momentum Journey artist Ros Smith was so inspired by the women of Safed that upon her return she created a series of paintings entitled “Shabbat Women.” Ros will show her paintings and discuss her journey. Then we will make Jewish-themed mosaics under the direction of local artist Chantal Blaustein. Chantal Blaustein is a local mosaic artist who leads “Broken Beauties Mosaics” parties. She uses vintage and contemporary china pieces\, colorful beads\, stained glass\, and found objects to create one-of-a-kind mosaic pieces. \n*All in-person attendees will be required to sign a Hadassah Event Participation Release to attend Hadassah in-person events. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
