SUMMARY:Alt YK with GatherDC
DESCRIPTION:Yom Kippur is the Jewish day of atonement. It is a day like none other on our calendar. It’s a day of radical self-awareness\, apologizing\, forgiving\, and refraining from the pleasures of daily life. It’s also a day of yearning\, hoping\, changing\, singing\, and starting over. That’s asking A LOT of us; sometimes\, we need different Jewish access points and community experiences to get the most out of what Yom Kippur can offer. \nOn Thursday\, October 2nd\, GatherDC is excited to host THREE Yom Kippur experiences to make it possible for Jewish 20s and 30s like you to observe this introspective Jewish holiday in inclusive\, creative\, and non-traditional ways. Join Rabbi Amalia Mark and the GatherDC community for a Yom Kippur rooted in community and an exploration of how we can use this moment in our calendar cycle to seed connection\, fulfillment\, and growth in the new year. \nPlease choose from any or all of the opportunities below in which you would like to participate. Some experiences will close early due to space limitations\, so sign up as soon as possible. \nEach of these experiences is open to Jewish and Jew-curious young adults of all gender identities\, sexual orientations\, levels of religiosity\, backgrounds\, ethnicities\, and abilities. \nGot questions? Please email our Engagement Director\, Noa Nir at noan@gatherdc.org. \nRequirements for Participants + Health & Safety Protocols\nRequirements for Participation \nAdvance registration is required for these experiences. \nGatherDC requires all participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. \nParticipants must knowingly assume the risk of possible exposure to the coronavirus (or other public health risk) by attending an in-person experience\, and release GatherDC\, its board\, and its employees from any and all liabilities. \nIn-Person Gathering Health and Safety Protocols\nMasks will be optional at all events. \nThere will be private security at the Alt YK morning experience. \n*GatherDC is committed to making Jewish experiences accessible to all. If cost is a barrier\, please email jennas@gatherdc.org or any GatherDC staff member. \nGatherDC is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for all participants at Gather events\, and as such maintains a strict no-tolerance policy toward any/all forms of harassment. If any staff\, volunteers\, or community members are observed physically or verbally harassing another participant\, Gather staff reserve the right to request immediate removal without a refund. Repeat offenses will not be tolerated and may result in a permanent ban from Gather experiences and spaces. \nGatherDC welcomes the participation of people of all abilities and backgrounds\, levels of religiosity\, gender identities\, and sexual orientations. SUMMARY:We Were Made for This Repair - 14Y Selah High Holidays 5786
DESCRIPTION:Yom Kippur: What We Hold\, What We Let Go\nDate: Thursday\, October 2\, 2025\, 3-4:30pm\nLocation: 17 Eastern Pkwy\, Brooklyn\, NY 11238 \nYom Kippur is one of our favorite days of the year\, not because it’s easy\, but because it’s full of potential! (If you can break something\, we think you can fix it.) There’s something sacred about stopping to notice what’s shifted and what might still be possible. We’ll gather for dynamic prayer\, elements of traditional liturgy\, and playful conversation about release\, repair\, and the kind of belonging that begins with showing up as we are.

SUMMARY:Yom Kippur at KH
DESCRIPTION:We are looking forward to being together in community for Yom Kippur this year! \nWe are committed to making our events open and accessible to everyone in our community at no cost. At the same time\, there are costs associated with running our programs. The recommended donation for Yom Kippur is $100 per adult. We encourage everyone to give at a level which feels feasible for them while acknowledging the cost to run this event. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. We also welcome sponsors to help cover the cost to make services possible for all of us\, including those who are unable to pay the suggested donation. \nA full schedule can be found below: \nOctober 1 \nKol Nidre and Ma’ariv – 6:15pm \nOctober 2 \nShacharit and Musaf – 8:30am \nMincha – 1pm \nNeila and Break Fast – 5:30pm \n*Childcare will be provided during Shacharit and Musaf from 10am to 1pm. Kids’ services will take place from 11am to 12pm. \n**Kehillat Harlem strives to make each person feel at home in our prayer space by upholding our commitment to halachah (Jewish law) while working hard to hold our commitments to maximum inclusivity. Our tefillot (prayer services) are liturgically traditional and there is a mehitza (separation between genders) while davening. Daveners (those who pray) sit in the section with which they identify\, and we make space for anyone who identifies outside of the gender binary. Tefillot are male-led and Torah reading is open to community members of any gender identity to read.

SUMMARY:Love Isn't Blind | A Comedy/Dating Show Where the Men Can't Speak
DESCRIPTION:* Doors at 6:30\, show at 8\, after-party to follow. Come early for food and a custom drink menu\, and stay late for the same. \nTired of swiping? In this dating experiment\, men compete on stage for one lucky bachelorette\, with the little caveat that the men can’t speak. Through a series of games – which includes calling the boys’ moms and unlocking their phones – we narrow it down to two men. Finally\, we hear their voices\, and the lucky winning man is sent with our bachelorette to the bar for an immediate date. Audience members wear wristbands according to their relationship status\, and a wingcouple (who wears actual wings) helps those of you who are too shy to make a move. This show has been featured on the Tamron Hall Show\, in LA Magazine\, on NBC’s California Live\, and more. \nCreated and hosted by Allison Goldberg.

SUMMARY:Singles Moroccan Sukkot Party: 30s Edition
DESCRIPTION:For Moroccan Jews\, Sukkot isn’t just one arc in the High Holiday calendar — it’s the heart of the season. In Moroccan tradition Sukkot is known as ‘chag la’ushpizin\,’ “the holiday of welcoming guests\,” and is marked by vibrant hospitality\, abundant food\, and deep spiritual reflection. In that spirit\, we invite 30somethings dating in Philly’s Jewish community to meet new people\, enjoy a feast for the senses\, and walk away with a few soulful insights to carry into the holiday! \nMarrakesh\, a hidden gem in Society Hill\, is not your average dinner out. From the moment you step inside\, prepare to be transported to Morocco — picture low\, plush seating\, colorful tapestries and pillows\, glowing lanterns\, and ornate brass everything. Start with a rosewater hand-washing ritual followed by a vibrant 7-course (!!!) family-style Moroccan feast including dessert. When the belly dancer swings through\, that’s when the dinner party turns into a party-party. \nDesigned as a meaningful lead-up to Sukkot\, the evening will also help you welcome the holiday with intention as Tribe 12’s rabbinic intern Adina Ikeman and Tribe 12 matchmaker Danielle Selber (who is a Moroccan Jew) share personal stories and Jewish mystical traditions. \nYour $40 ticket covers the a 7-course feast (tip and tax are already included). Marrakesh is happy to accommodate dietary restrictions\, just speak to a server when you arrive. This venue is BYOB so feel free to bring a bottle to share — an excellent way to break the ice! \nIn the spirit of welcoming guests\, we invite you to bring a friend who has never been to Tribe 12 event and enjoy 20% off each of your tickets when you sign up together. Registration will open soon!

SUMMARY:Film Screening: A Letter to David
DESCRIPTION:Join the Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema and the Chicago JCC for a screening of A Letter to David on October 5th at 2pm in Highland Park. This is a MIDWEST PREMIERE! To commemorate the 2nd anniversary of October 7th–and the 731st day 50 hostages will have been brutally held captive in Gaza. \nA Letter to David (מכתב לדויד) \nFilmmaker Tom Shoval crafts a personal cinematic letter to David Cunio\, who was abducted by Hamas from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7\, 2023\, and has been held hostage in Gaza ever since. Ten years ago\, David and his twin brother Eitan starred in Shoval’s award-winning debut feature film Youth (Berlinale 2013)\, which focused on the powerful bond between brothers and\, in a tragic and unimaginable twist of fate\, revolved around a kidnapping. Through unedited behind-the-scenes footage and audition tapes from Youth\, Shoval builds a multi-layered documentary that explores the inexplicable connections between life and cinema\, memory and reality\, and the catastrophic consequences of war.
