SUMMARY:Shabbat Exploration Series: Shabbat Lunch & Walk
DESCRIPTION:This is the March edition of our Shabbat Exploration Series! \nTake a break from the grind and join us for a relaxed Shabbat lunch in Northwest Philly. After lunch we will go for a leisurely walk in the Wissahickon (weather permitting) to recharge in nature. Lunch will be vegetarian and provided by Tribe 12! \nLike every part of this series\, no prior experience is expected — the point is to try something new and not do it alone! You can sign up for just this one event as a drop in\, or join our Shabbat Exploration Series cohort to enjoy the full arc of programming. See below for details! \nShabbat is a day of rest\, joy\, and connection\, and there are many ways to experience it. Maybe you want a break from your phone for a day\, or even just for a few hours\, but that might feel lonely. Maybe you’ve been wanting to check out a synagogue in town\, but don’t want to go by yourself. Maybe you want to connect over a leisurely Shabbat lunch and songs with other people\, feeling like there’s nowhere you have to rush off to\, just being fully in the moment. \nThis is the inspiration for our Shabbat Exploration Series. One Saturday a month from January to June\, rotate between synagogue-based experiences and home/nature-based ones with other 20s and 30s. This is a chance to explore different ways of doing Shabbat to see what fits for you individually\, while also forming friendships with people who are doing the same. The experiences are open to people who currently have any level of Shabbat observance\, including zero experience\, and there is no end goal regarding how you observe. Tribe 12 Rabbinic Intern Adina Ikeman and Tribe 12 Director of Engagement(s) Danielle Selber will lead this program. \nParticipation options: \nDrop in to individual events: Just interested in one or two offerings? You can register for any individual event just like any other program. \n$5 for synagogue-based experiences (includes a meal)\n$10 for home- or nature-based experiences (includes a meal) \nJoin the cohort: Want the full experience? Join a cohort of people exploring what Shabbat means\, together. Cohort members are automatically registered for every program in the series (if you need to miss any\, that is totally fine). \n$54 covers all Saturday morning experiences\nCohort members have the added perk of attending a closing Shabbat dinner with Danielle and Adina! \nSchedule: (subject to change) \nSaturday\, January 31st: Potluck lunch and singing (Manayunk) \nSaturday\, February 21st: Synagogue experience (Society Hill Synagogue) \nSaturday\, March 21st: Shabbat lunch and walk (Wissahickon Park) \nSaturday\, April 11th: Synagogue experience (Rodeph Shalom) \nSaturday\, May 16th: Guided Shabbat hike (Northwest location TBA) \nSaturday\, June 6th: Synagogue experience (Center City location TBA) \nFriday\, May 29th: Closing Shabbat for cohort members (Location TBA) \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Aviv Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join Aviv’s 20s & 30s book club for our next gathering\, where we’ll dive into the writings of contemporary rabbis. This time\, instead of one shared book\, you can choose from four options: Heart of a Stranger by Angela Buchdahl\, The Amen Effect by Sharon Brous\, For Such a Time as This by Elliot Cosgrove\, or Judaism Is About Love by Shai Held. We’ll begin together and then break out into smaller groups by book for thoughtful conversation and connection…and there may or may not be a special guest joining us! Whether you’re steeped in Jewish thought or just curious to learn and talk in community\, we’d love for you to be part of it.

SUMMARY:Museum Hopping for 35-50: National Gallery of Art
DESCRIPTION:Although DC is a city of incredible museums\, many of us don’t find the time to visit. Find the motivation you’re looking for by joining others ages 35-50 for a twice-monthly museum hop! We’ll meet at a different museum every other Sunday to explore the exhibits\, then sit together in a nearby cafe to discuss what we saw\, share insights\, and build a community. \n \n \nRegistration is $8/gathering\, plus occasional museum ticket fees and optional purchases at cafes. Register for as many hops as you’d like – we’re building our community\, so we hope you’ll be able to join multiple trips! \n \n \nAbout this trip: Join us in viewing the NGA’s Back and Forth exhibit. Spanning six centuries and different cultures\, four paintings reveal how artists engage with art history—and become part of it. We’ll meet at 3:00 PM to explore the exhibition\, followed by a chat in a nearby cafe. \n \n \nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to Rabbi Atara at acohen@edcjcc.org.

SUMMARY:TRIBE - Bedikat HaMayim Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Long Ago\, the Sea Saved Our Ancestors…Isn’t it Time We Return the Favor? \nPesach is the time when we clean our homes and remove chametz\, the last remaining bits of leavened products in our homes before the holiday. But our home isn’t just our house. Our home is the Earth. And 70% of it is water. \nWe search the shorelines\, rivers\, lakes\, and harbors for a different kind of chametz: plastic snack bags and bottles that once held chametz\, plastic cutlery that served chametz\, and plastic bags that carried chametz — now lingering in our water long after the holiday has passed. We call this practice Bedikat HaMayim — the searching of the water. \nThe global participation in our annual Reverse Tashlich cleanup has been inspiring and continues to grow. But awareness alone is not enough. Once a year is not enough. That’s why Repair the Sea created a second global cleanup: Bedikat HaMayim® — to keep the challenges facing our water and marine life present in our collective consciousness\, and to offer ongoing opportunities for meaningful action. \nBy weaving Bedikat HaMayim into Jewish life\, we align our spiritual values with environmental responsibility. We become part of a global movement rooted in care\, connection\, repair and restoration. Join us in caring for our shared water\, strengthening our global Jewish community\, and helping turn intention into action. Pesach asks us to clean our homes. Bedikat HaMayim asks us to clean our world. \nThe TRIBE will be joining forces with Tikkun Hayam and Keep Pinellas Beautiful (KPB) to take part in the INTERNATIONAL Bedikat HaMayim Beach Cleanup event on Sunday\, March 22nd from 9:00am-12:00pm. \nAll participants MUST complete the online waiver form prior to the event. A second waiver for KPB will need to be filled out at the event itself. Registering in advance is important so we know how many sets of cleanup gear to provide. \nOur cleanup will take place at Gandy North Beach on the north side of the Gandy Causeway. You can simply type “Gandy North Beach” into your GPS app to navigate to the location. Look for the pop-up canopy and table with the KPB tablecloth. Please arrive by 9:00am for instructions and safety briefing. \nWe will provide all cleanup gear (gloves\, garbage bags\, pickers\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, hand sanitizer\, etc.). Participants must wear close-toed shoes\, bring a reusable water bottle\, and wear weather appropriate clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will have a 5-gallon Igloo to refill your reusable water bottle.
