SUMMARY:Antisemitism\, Democracy\, and the Struggle for an Inclusive America
DESCRIPTION:Antisemitism does not only threaten the Jewish community – it jeopardizes the rights and safety of countless other communities as well as our fundamental democratic norms and values. As democracy is undermined\, antisemitism and broader hate and extremism flourish. At this critical moment for democracy and our country\, Yolanda Savage-Narva\, Vice President of Racial Equity\, Diversity\, and Inclusion\, Communities of Belonging for the Union for Reform Judaism\, moderates a conversation about the inextricable link between Jewish safety and our democratic freedoms with Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland’s 8th Congressional District and the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability in the 118th Congress; Amy Spitalnick\, CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs; and Maya Wiley\, President and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. \nwith Tree of Life and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs

SUMMARY:OBSERVANT
DESCRIPTION:Pamela Weiler Grayson’s New Play OBSERVANT to Headline Spark Theatre Festival NYC \nLimited Engagement runs September 12 – 28 at The Chain Theatre \nHow can we repair the world if we don’t repair ourselves? \nIn OBSERVANT\, three generations of women confront their relationships to their Jewish identities—and to each other. Comedy and tragedy entwine\, like a braided challah\, when a mass shooting in their community tests the bonds of faith and family. OBSERVANT will headline Emerging Artists Theatre’s Spark Theatre Festival NYC. Written by Pamela Weiler Grayson. \nOne of the themes that runs throughout the play is how to come to terms with and try to improve a violent and chaotic world\, when we can’t even seem to get along with our own families or communities\, or reconcile our own internal conflicts. The Jewish custom of  “Tikkun Olam\,” which translates into “repair the world” or “mend the world\,” reflects this deeply-held desire to make the world a better place\, even while we struggle with hatred and extreme tribalism. A very timely theme in our current global and national climate. \nWritten by Pamela Weiler Grayson \nDirected by Shellen Lubin \nProduced by Red Lyric Productions in Association with Adam Weinstock and Emerging Artists Theatre. \nThe cast features Yair Ben-Dor\, Arielle Flax\, Rebecca Hoodwin\, Arielle Beth Klein\,  and Melissa Wolff. \nThe creative and production team includes scenic design by Colleen Shea\, lighting design by David Castaneda\, sound design by Grady Gund\, and costume coordinator Sophia Dorio. \nPerformance schedule: \nThursday\, September 12 at 7pm \nSaturday\, September 14 at 7pm \nMonday\, September\, 16 at 7pm \nWednesday\, September 18 at 2pm \nThursday\, September 19 at 7pm \nSunday\, September 22 at 2pm \nTuesday\, September 24 at 7pm \nThursday\, September 26 at 7pm \nSaturday\, September 28 at 7pm

SUMMARY:“My Uncle Sam” at 3AM Theatre!
DESCRIPTION:NYC: “My Uncle Sam” by Theater Unspeakable at 3 AM Theatre \nFriday\, Sept 27 @ 7 PM \nSaturday\, Sept 28 @ 3 PM \nCome join us at 3AM Theatre for a night of laughter and entertainment with Theater Unspeakable’s production of “My Uncle Sam.” This in-person event promises to be a unique and unforgettable experience. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to witness this incredible performance live in the heart of NYC. Get your tickets now! \nAbout the Show \nBorn in Russia in 1891\, Sami Silverstein joined a wave of turn-of-the-century immigrants who came to America seeking a better life. Growing up in Brooklyn\, he took an interest in mechanics and became a test pilot during the early days of aviation. After a near-death experience\, he returned to his love of building bicycles which eventually landed him on a vaudeville stage as Sam Barton of the Barton Bros. act. Marriage\, family and an international career all come careening towards a spectacular yet tragic ending as he dies backstage at Radio City Music Hall in New York on the eve of World War II. \nBased on a true story\, My Uncle Sam uses Theater Unspeakable’s rowdy brand of imaginative physical theater to bring a very personal and meaningful story to life. Combining tongue-in-cheek humor and a dash of derring-do\, this one-person show recreates an era of great ingenuity\, triumph and heartbreak. \nWritten and performed by Marc Frost. Directed by Jeremy Aluma. My Uncle Sam is a one-person show that revives the unique story of a Russian Jewish immigrant who became an international vaudeville star in the early 1900s. \nAbout the Artist \nMARC FROST is an actor\, deviser\, educator and Chicago native who has performed and produced work in Brazil\, Ireland\, Spain\, the United States and the United Kingdom. He created Theater Unspeakable as a platform for original works of devised\, physical theater. Based in Chicago\, the award-winning company has toured nationally\, performing at venues including Lincoln Center Education (NY) and Kennedy Center (DC). He currently teaches at Columbia College Chicago and Roosevelt University. Frost is also a proud graduate of the Commercial Theater Institutes 14-Week Training Program for Commercial Theater Producers in New York City. Theater Unspeakable is an award-winning\, touring theater company. Founded by Marc Frost in 2010\, every year the Chicago-based company tours its shows to hundreds and thousands of young people and families around the country at venues including Lincoln Center Education (NY) and Kennedy Center (DC). The company’s style strives to create live theater at its most imaginative and engaging. Marc also co-founded Physical Theater Festival Chicago (https://www.physicalfestival.com/)\, an international physical theater festival that celebrated its 11th edition in 2024. \nRunning time: 45 minutes + Q+A \nAge Recommendation: Ages 7+

SUMMARY:We ‘ARRRE’ Shabbat @ Harlem Moishe House
DESCRIPTION:Ahoy\, mateys! Get ready to set sail on a culinary adventure at our Pirate-themed Shabbat Dinner. Join us for an evening where the spirit of the high seas meets the warmth of Shabbat tradition. We’ll feast on a treasure trove of themed dishes with vegan and gluten free options. Recite the blessings and maybe a sea shanty or two with us! Walk the plank into the stern of the ship (backyard) for desserts and cocktails. Don your best pirate attire—think loose-fitting shirts\, belts\, scarves\, and boots. Anchors away! \nP.S. This is indeed a punny word play combining Moishe House’s annual ‘We Are’ campaign with the piratical ‘arrr’ exclamation.
