SUMMARY:SAVOY
DESCRIPTION:Co-Presented by Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History\nDirected by Zohar Wagner\nDocudrama Feature | Israel | 2022 | 78 min\nHebrew with English subtitles\nPHILADELPHIA PREMIERE\nTel Aviv. 1975. Kochava Levy (Dana Ivgy\, Cinema Sabaya)\, a 31-year-old housewife and mother\, checks into the Savoy Hotel with the man she has been having an affair with. The night turns deadly when the hotel is suddenly seized by members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)\, taking her and seven other guests hostage and demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners. Throughout the night\, Levy\, who is of Yemini descent and fluent in Arab\, becomes the prime mediator between the terrorists and IDF negotiators\, diffusing tensions to ensure the safety of the hostages. \nBased on a true story and nominated for five Ophir Awards (Israeli Academy Awards)\, this fast-paced\, stylish\, and positively engrossing hybrid documentary honors a woman whose heroic efforts would fail to be recognized by the media until years later. A combination of exhilarating reenactments and actual audio and video clips from that fateful night\, SAVOY recounts the forgotten heroine of this tragedy with exceptional detail. \nOFFICIAL SELECTION: \nAtlanta Jewish Film Festival\nJerusalem Film Festival\nMiami Jewish Film Festival\nSan Francisco Jewish Film Festival\nUK Jewish Film Festival

SUMMARY:Liberal American Jews and Israel: An Inflection Point
DESCRIPTION:Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza has pushed liberal American Jews to a breaking point. The progressive condemnations of Israel have made some Jews on the left feel abandoned and betrayed by their ideological allies\, while actions and rhetoric from Israel’s government—the most right-wing in its history—have made others question whether their values are compatible with supporting a Jewish state that seems headed in an increasingly illiberal direction. \nLeading American Jewish thinkers on Israel Rabbi Jill Jacobs\, CEO of T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights\, Peter Beinart\, journalist and political commentator\, and Michael Koplow\, Chief Policy Officer at the Israel Policy Forum– will offer differing perspectives on how some American Jews have been reevaluating their identities as liberals and their relationships to Israel in a conversation moderated by Senior Rabbi Aaron Potek\, Executive Director of Jewish Life at Sixth & I.

SUMMARY:Friendseder™ Community Brunch
DESCRIPTION:This event is IN PERSON at Zingerman’s Greyline\nFriendseder is to Passover what Friendsgiving is to Thanksgiving. If you’re reading this\, you’re a friend of the Deli’s\, so whether or not you celebrate Passover\, we’d love to have you join us at our Friendseder Community Brunch! \nAt a Friendsgiving\, you might expect to see twists on classic Thanksgiving dishes\, and Friendseder is no different (except with classic Jewish dishes\, of course). Friendseder is celebrated before the start of Passover\, so together we’ll enjoy a 4-course brunch that’s inspired by the Seder plate without needing to follow Passover dietary rules. The menu will include dishes like Lamb or Vegetarian Tagine and other surprises from our kitchen. And we wouldn’t forget fun brunch beverages—your ticket includes mocktail pairings! Or\, enjoy the cash bar during your brunch. Cheers! (Or rather\, l’chaim!) \nThis is our third annual Friendseder\, and we’re very excited to once again be partnering with The Well to bring their initiative to our Ann Arbor community. Your hosts for the brunch will be Zingerman’s Event Coordinator Tessie Ives-Wilson and The Well’s Executive Director Rabbi Jeff Stombaugh. Together\, they will lead you on a guided tour of this special brunch menu—the tastes\, products\, ingredients\, meaning\, ritual\, and traditions. \nThe Well is a Detroit area non-profit with a mission to create and foster an accessible\, inclusive\, and relationship-driven community. They use Jewish wisdom and rituals to help foster community\, but you don’t have to be Jewish to join the community! Friendseder Community Brunch welcomes everyone to the table to learn about Passover rituals and traditions\, but also encourages you to make the holiday your own! \nPlease note: This menu will contain dairy\, fish\, gluten and nuts. We can make adjustments to the menu to accommodate these allergens or dietary preferences\, but Zingerman’s Deli is not a kosher facility and we cannot provide kosher meals for this event. \nWE HAVE 3 TICKET OPTIONS:\nDue to the generosity of The Well donors\, subsidized tickets are available at three pay-what-you-can tiers: $45\, $65 and $85 per person.\nEach ticket includes a 4 course brunch menu + mocktail pairings plus coffee and tea and a guided tasting and learning experience with Zingerman’s Delicatessen and The Well.\nA cash bar will also be available for handcrafted cocktails\, beer and wine.\nTrue cost of the ticket is $65+ per person.\nEach ticket also includes a 20% off coupon to use to shop our Specialty Foods grocery area after the tasting\nPLEASE SELECT ONE OF THESE TICKET OPTIONS:\nSubsidized Ticket #1: $45\nSubsidized Ticket #2: $65\nPay it Forward Ticket: $85\nLOGISTICS:\nPlease include any allergy or other dietary needs in the field provided during checkout\nIf you have any questions\, please email delievents@zingermans.com

SUMMARY:Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema: “Vishniac”
DESCRIPTION:He was difficult and flamboyant\, a shameless self-promoter\, bender of the truth and master of reinvention. He was also one of the groundbreaking photographers of the 20th century–a brilliant artist whose body of work spans decades\, continents\, and the catastrophic fallout from two world wars. Though his pioneering microscopy transformed the nature of science photography in the 1970s\, Roman Vishniac is best known for his iconic images of Jewish life in Eastern Europe from 1935 through 1938. Few predicted that less than a decade later\, these communities would be wiped out\, and Vishniac’s photographs would provide the last visual records of an entire world. Now for the first time\, his story comes to life as a feature documentary. Produced by Roberta Grossman (Above and Beyond\, Who Will Write Our History).
