SUMMARY:LA Premiere of "AUCTION" with Q&A with Michael Berenbaum
DESCRIPTION:LA Premiere of “AUCTION” a drama about Nazi looted art followed by a Q&A with Holocaust scholar Michael Berenbaum.\n\n\nJoin LAJFF for the LA Premiere of “AUCTION” followed by a Q&A with renowned Holocaust scholar\, Michael Berenbaum! \nSynopsis: \nBased on true events\, veteran French director\, Pascal Bonitzer depicts the highbrow world of Parisian auctioneers at the famous (and fictional) Scottie’s auction house\, where hotshot opportunist wheeler-dealer André Masson (Alex Lutz) receives a letter concerning the discovery of a painting in the home of a factory worker in the suburbs on the Alsatian border. Said painting\, by Austrian Expressionist Egon Schiele\, had been long assumed lost — condemned and destroyed as “degenerate art” by the Nazis in 1939. Masson’s first reaction is to believe that it can only be a fake\, a copy. He decides to make the trip to examine it and against all odds\, the painting turns out to be the masterpiece gone missing. This could undoubtedly be the turning point of his career\, but after a brief investigation\, he realizes that he has in his hands a looted work of art. \nDirected by Pascal BonitzerStarring Alex Lutz \nDrama/France/ 2024/91 Minutes/French with English subtitles \nQ&A to follow with scholar\, Michael Berenbaum\, Director of the Sigi Ziering Institute at AJU

SUMMARY:The Collective Womb
DESCRIPTION:“our bodies emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs that emerged out of wombs…” \n\n\n\nInterdisciplinary performance artist Alexandra Neuman brings the premiere of The Collective Womb to El Jardin del Paraiso for a night of mythmaking on the summer solstice.
