SUMMARY:Queer Art in the Sukkah
DESCRIPTION:Join Rabbinic Intern Molly and Artist Miriam Saperstein for an afternoon of art making in the sukkah. Outside a beautiful community garden in West Philly\, we will do a short text study about sukkot and make art using foraged inks. Come prepared to get a little messy\, we advise wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will provide all needed supplies and snacks. This event is intended for folks who identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. \nAccess Notes: The sukkah is accessible from the street level; however bathrooms are located up inside on the third floor and masks will be required to enter inside. We will have extra masks available for those who need. We also ask that you please take a negative covid test prior to joining to ensure we all stay as safe as possible.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Outdoors in Palo Alto at Foothills Nature Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Join us in restoring the essential waterway and wildlife corridor at beautiful Foothills Nature Preserve! Volunteers should expect to use sharp handheld tools to remove prune California native plants. Long sleeves and pants are highly reccomended for this event. Volunteers can also expect a walk with spectacular views to learn about California’s local ecology! \nVisit Grassroots Ecology’s Foothills Nature Preserve page to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations. \nWaivers/Registration: All volunteers attending the workday must be registered individually and have approved the online waiver through this Eventbrite page. Youth under 18 must have their legal guardian approve the waiver on their behalf. Volunteers age 12 and under require an accompanying adult. \nParking: Meet at Foothills Nature Preserve Interpretive Center at 3300 Page Mill Rd\, Palo Alto 94304. Please carpool if possible. The road up to the site is very steep and curvy. Download driving instructions ahead of time\, as there is limited cell reception up on Page Mill Rd. There will be a ranger at the park entrance\, and volunteers will receive entry details in their confirmation email. \nAlternate Transportation: Foothills Nature Preserve is mainly accessible by car. Strong bikers can lock their bikes to a rack on-site. \nMeeting Space: We will be meeting in front of the Interpretive Center. While there is limited cell service\, there is public WiFi from the City of Palo Alto. There are several bathrooms and water fountains within a 10 minute walk. \nPrepare for Working Outdoors: \nReusable water bottle filled with water\nLong pants\, long sleeves recommended\nSturdy closed-toed shoes that can get dirty\nHat/sunscreen or rain gear/boots\nPlan for potential exposure to sun\, poison oak\, ticks\, prickly plants\nPrepare for limited to no cell reception\nWe will provide gloves\, tools\, and light snacks. \nEvent Cancellations: \nWe are committed to the safety of our staff and volunteers. In the event that we must cancel a workday due to extreme weather conditions or poor air quality\, a Grassroots Ecology staff person will reach out via email no later than 5:00 PM the day prior to this event. \nJoin Us! \nGrassroots Ecology encourages people from all identities and backgrounds to participate in our programs. We’ll enjoy Jewish ritual and learning\, a Kosher\, vegetarian farm-to-table meal\, nonalcoholic botanical beverages\, and a spirited Sukkot Sounds concert\, featuring the music of local band 7 Layers. \nThis event is intended for adults; camp is for grown-ups this time!  \nSunday\, October 20\, 2024 \n5-8pm \nFarber Farm at Tamarack Camps: 4361 Perryville Road\, Ortonville MI \nSubsidized tickets are available at three pay-what-you-can tiers: $36\, $50\, and $72. \nThe standard ticket price for this event is $50\, and includes Jewish learning and ritual activities\, a Kosher farm-to-table vegetarian meal\, creative mocktails and one glass of wine during ritual\, and an evening of music.  Due to the generosity of donors\, we are able to offer a subsidized ticket price of $36\, as well as a Pay it Forward price of $72\, which supports our ability to keep this event financially accessible.
