SUMMARY:Oud Player on the Tel
DESCRIPTION:Oud Player on the Tel – World Premiere \nSet against the backdrop of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict\, Oud Player on the Tel follows the story of Amir\, a Palestinian olive farmer\, who befriends Melke\, the patriarch of a newly arrived Jewish refugee family in 1947. As the founding of Israel unfolds\, the two families become entangled in friendship\, rivalry\, and love\, highlighting the tragic absurdity of a conflict that has spanned 75 years. The play’s surrealist style\, underscored by live oud music\, draws inspiration from Fiddler on the Roof\, providing a poignant yet darkly comedic exploration of the pursuit of coexistence. \nWritten by Tom Block \nDirected by Jesica Garrou \nOriginal score written and performed live on the oud by Rachid Halihal \nThe cast features Hari Bhaskar\, Gary Brintz\, Inji El Gammal\, Maya Koshaba\, Mark Peters\, Jennifer G. R. Tulchin\, and Mark J. Quiles. Understudies John Druzba and Hala Shah. The creative and production team includes Hala Shah (choreography)\, Gary Brintz (fight director) Richie Ouellette (scenic design)\, Riva Fairhall (lighting design)\, Cathy Small (costume design)\, and A. Kasper (stage management). Oud Player On the Tel is a Kitty Williams Co-Production in tandem with the International Human Rights Art Movement. \nRunning time: 70 minutes.

Full of chutzpah\, Rebecca performs all over the city\, hustling to sharpen her stand-up skills. Rebecca is the co-founder and Executive Director of ChiTribe working to make Jewish spaces more accessible throughout the Chicagoland area. Rebecca is also the COO of the Windy City Comedy Festival\, because why just do one thing? \nSpecial Guest\, Emma Finn:\nEmma is relatively new to the comedy scene\, but her lifetime of mental illness and being the funny friend has prepared her well. Her comedy is like her personality: down to earth mixed with sass and sarcasm. If that’s not enough to get you excited\, just listen to what her family said: “wow.” “Genuinely laughed\, I didn’t even have to fake it (and I was prepared to)” and “you REALLY have a talent for comedy\, I had no idea.” \nHosted by Yoni Heisler:\nYoni Heisler is a Chicago-based stand-up who blends sharp one-liners with quirky observational humor. Currently a paid regular at Zanies in Chicago\, Yoni has opened for headliners like Tim Dillon\, Ali Macofsky and others. Yoni performs at clubs across the US\, and has also performed at several festivals\, including the Asheville Comedy Festival and Skankfest

SUMMARY:A Pro-Israel Discussion with the Pink Haired Pizza Girl Caroline D’Amore
DESCRIPTION:What does a good Catholic Italian girl from LA have to say about Israel? Well quite a bit — and she’s got a lot of people listening. If you’re not one of Caroline D’Amore’s 141K Instagram followers\, then please let us introduce you to the Pink Haired Pizza Girl! Caroline is the owner of “Pizza Girl” restaurant in Venice Beach and has appeared on Hell’s Kitchen with Gordon Ramsey. Caroline is not Jewish\, but she is married to an Israeli\, and since October 7 she has used her online platform to advocate for Israel as a proud non-Jewish ally. Help us welcome her to Detroit to talk about what it means to be pro-Israel and the importance of speaking out. We’ll enjoy an Italian-themed dinner at Soul Café and learn a bit about the café as well as the Soul Studio. \nThe Loop is a Federation initiative focused on engaging with and bringing together Jews living in the westernmost suburbs of Detroit (think Walled Lake\, Northville\, Novi\, Commerce\, Plymouth)\, but all are welcome to attend. \n$50 per person includes discussion and dinner. \nSpace is very limited. Please register in advance. \nMore about D’Amore \nCaroline D’Amore is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a passionate activist. She has been vocal about various social issues\, particularly standing up against hate and antisemitism. After a powerful post she shared went viral\, Caroline began using her platform to advocate for the Jewish community and fight all forms of hate. She has since traveled around the world\, speaking to organizations\, colleges\, and online audiences\, encouraging others to take a stand against intolerance and prejudice. Her activism is rooted in her personal experiences and commitment to creating positive change\, as she continues to inspire others to speak up and get involved in meaningful causes. Through her efforts\, Caroline has become a voice for unity and equality\, alongside her work as the CEO of Pizza Girl. \nThe Loop is powered by the Gerson Innovation Fund. \nThank you to our Leadership \nThe Loop Co-Chairs: \nSara and Scott Bernstein \nJessica and Danny Klein \nDanielle and Aaron Ruskin \nBill Goldstein and Jayme Kirschner\, Affinities Department Chairs
