SUMMARY:LA Premiere of "FOR THE LIVING" with Q&A
DESCRIPTION:“An Essential Lesson for all Humanity!” ~ Solzy at the Movies\n  \nJoin LAJFF\, Museum of Tolerance\, and Holocaust Museum LA for the Los Angeles Premiere of “FOR THE LIVING”\nQ&A to follow film with co-writers/directors Marc Bennett and Tim Roper\, co-writer Rabbi Brett Kopin\, Executive Producer Melinda Goldrich and film participant and Holocaust scholar\, Michael Berenbaum. \n \nSynopsis: In January 1945\, after 2 years as a prisoner in a death camp\, 10-year-old Holocaust survivor Marcel Zielinksi embarked on a perilous 60-mile journey by foot from Auschwitz-Birkenau through an active war zone to Krakow\, Poland. A child’s desperate search for any surviving family members. A journey from Darkness to Light. \nDecades later\, 250 cyclists from 12 different countries traveled to Auschwitz and re-traced 84-year-old Marcel’s liberation path as a collective act of empathy called “Ride for the Living”\, which was created by JCC Krakow. \nMarcel’s dehumanizing Holocaust experience and the empathy demonstrated during “Ride for the Living” provide a stunning parallel for Humankind’s equally perilous journey between the two extremes of our nature: Dehumanization to Empathy. Darkness to Light. \nThe film contrasts and explores the history of centurie-old dehumanization and genocides in Armenia\, Cambodia\, Rwanda\, Bosnia\, American First Nations and more\, igniting the urgent conversation: When will we stop building monuments for the dead and get busy re-humanizing the living? When will we finally say NEVER AGAIN and truly mean it! \n  \nUSA\, Poland/2024/117 minutes\nCASTMarcel Zielinski\, Scholar Michael Berenbaum\, Benjamin Ferencz – prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials\, Jonathan Ornstein\, Jonathan Greenblatt of the ADL\, Neil deGrasse Tyson\n \n \nDIRECTORS’ BIO\nMarc Bennett is a co-director\, co-writer\, and co-producer of “For the Living”. An artist and filmmaker\, he has directed multiple feature films\, documentaries\, and award-winning shorts\, including “The Tattooed Torah”\, narrated by Ed Asner\, which premiered at the LA Jewish Film Festival. He also executive produced “Who Are the Marcuses?” His artwork is currently on display at the Museum of Tolerance\, Holocaust Museum LA and Sinai Temple.Tim Roper\, also a co-director and co-writer of “For the Living“\, is an award-winning filmmaker and branded content creator\, known for his work that has appeared on platforms like the Super Bowl and 60 Minutes. \n  \n\n\n

SUMMARY:The Return from the Other Planet
DESCRIPTION:The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life will be hosting a screening of The Return from the Other Planet at Cobble Hill Cinemas. The documentary film exploring the life of the writer\, Holocaust survivor\, and pioneering psychonaut Yechiel De-Nur\, also known by his alias\, Ka.tzetnik. The screening will be followed by a Q+A with the film’s director Assaf Lapid\, moderated by Noa Osheroff. \nThe film explores the Ka.tzetnik enigma\, shedding light on the person behind the myth\, Yehiel De-Nur\, as he struggles to reconcile with surviving Auschwitz and\, as he famously said\, returning from the other planet. Yehiel De-Nur lived a life shrouded in secrecy\, concealing his identity behind the pseudonym Ka.tzetnik. The books he wrote about surviving Auschwitz sold millions of copies and shaped the way readers worldwide imagined the Holocaust. Despite attempts by reporters and researchers to uncover his true identity\, he remained elusive\, reaching mythical status in the post-Holocaust culture.  \nDuring the explosive public trial of Nazi and Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann\, Ka.tzetnik was forced to reveal his identity to the public as he was summoned to testify. In his iconic testimony\, Ka.tzetnik withdrew into another dimension\, famously describing Auschwitz as “the other planet” before collapsing on the witness stand\, shocking the court and viewers worldwide. Haunted by new nightmares rooted in his testimony\, Ka.tzetnik turns to year-long experimental LSD treatment in the Netherlands\, yearning to find clarity and peace. \nYehiel De-Nur’s story speaks to how questions of literature\, metamorphosis\, and consciousness can begin to address the Jewish past and future. The Neighborhood invites attendees to explore these questions during the Q&A following the screening with the film’s director.  \nIf price is a barrier to your participation in this program\, please email info@theneighborhoodbk.org to request an accommodation.

FACE2FACE’s innovative approach has resulted in numerous success stories including marriages\, engagements and long-lasting friendships. FACE2FACE is changing the way our generation thinks about modern dating. \nAlexa and her team of amazing ladies want to change the way that jewish singles think about modern dating . We help them find laughter\, light and ultimately love. Enter a room with 200 high quality people that you have one to two degrees of separation from. Then add curated dating\, open bar\, and light bites. We hope you leave making lasting friendships\, maybe a few dates and a lot of fun! \nAbout our sponsor: VENUS DATING APP. VENUS is the first dating app that values compatibility over looks. Too often\, we focus on photos\, quickly determine if someone’s hot\, and swipe. VENUS is on a mission to change that. \nBy blurring photos\, VENUS is like a close friend telling you about someone — their name\, age\, job\, personality\, and more — before showing you their picture. \nThis allows you to check out every profile with an open mind and reveal photos only if it feels right. Then send a like if you’re still interested. \nVENUS matches you with people who like you for you. \n***Because of our FACE2FACE parties\, multiple couples have gotten married and made babies! THAT CAN BE YOU! SEE YOU THERE!
