SUMMARY:OBSERVANT
DESCRIPTION:Pamela Weiler Grayson’s New Play OBSERVANT to Headline Spark Theatre Festival NYC \nLimited Engagement runs September 12 – 28 at The Chain Theatre \nHow can we repair the world if we don’t repair ourselves? \nIn OBSERVANT\, three generations of women confront their relationships to their Jewish identities—and to each other. Comedy and tragedy entwine\, like a braided challah\, when a mass shooting in their community tests the bonds of faith and family. OBSERVANT will headline Emerging Artists Theatre’s Spark Theatre Festival NYC. Written by Pamela Weiler Grayson. \nOne of the themes that runs throughout the play is how to come to terms with and try to improve a violent and chaotic world\, when we can’t even seem to get along with our own families or communities\, or reconcile our own internal conflicts. The Jewish custom of  “Tikkun Olam\,” which translates into “repair the world” or “mend the world\,” reflects this deeply-held desire to make the world a better place\, even while we struggle with hatred and extreme tribalism. A very timely theme in our current global and national climate. \nWritten by Pamela Weiler Grayson \nDirected by Shellen Lubin \nProduced by Red Lyric Productions in Association with Adam Weinstock and Emerging Artists Theatre. \nThe cast features Yair Ben-Dor\, Arielle Flax\, Rebecca Hoodwin\, Arielle Beth Klein\,  and Melissa Wolff. \nThe creative and production team includes scenic design by Colleen Shea\, lighting design by David Castaneda\, sound design by Grady Gund\, and costume coordinator Sophia Dorio. \nPerformance schedule: \nThursday\, September 12 at 7pm \nSaturday\, September 14 at 7pm \nMonday\, September\, 16 at 7pm \nWednesday\, September 18 at 2pm \nThursday\, September 19 at 7pm \nSunday\, September 22 at 2pm \nTuesday\, September 24 at 7pm \nThursday\, September 26 at 7pm \nSaturday\, September 28 at 7pm

SUMMARY:Virtual Seminar: Meditative Spaces with Artist Tobi Kahn
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, September 18th at 6pm ET for a virtual seminar with award-winning artist Tobi Kahn. \nThe Museum at Eldridge Street is proud to feature our current exhibition Memory and Inheritance: Paintings and Ceremonial Objects by Tobi Kahn\, showcasing Kahn’s luminous paintings and his singular Judaica in our historic synagogue home\, inviting reflection and meditation. \nIn recent years\, Kahn has been making paintings\, sculptures\, and spaces for communities that seek both contemplation and commemoration\, offering a respite from our daily lives\, and an interlude of healing. Join us on Zoom with Tobi Kahn for a deep dive into these meditative spaces\, along with the meanings and motivations behind them. \nIn his art\, Kahn strives to connect to the spirituality in each of us\, regardless of faith. The spaces discussed in this program will include the HealthCare Chaplaincy Meditative Space in New York City. Commissioned after 9/11\, this environment was created by Kahn in 2002 as a haven for clergy of all faiths to find a peaceful moment\, and still exists today as a sanctuary for chaplains visiting hospital patients. \nPlease see the Zoom link in your order confirmation email. This program is entirely virtual. \nRegistration for this Zoom program is pay-what-you-wish. The following are suggested amounts for each ticket type:\nAdults $12\nSeniors $10\nStudents $8 \n\nAbout the Artist: \nTobi Kahn is a painter and sculptor whose art has been shown in over 70 solo museum exhibitions. Works by Kahn are in major museum collections globally\, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum\, The Phillips Collection\, and The Houston Museum of Fine Arts. To learn more about Tobi Kahn\, please visit tobikahn.com. \n\nImage Credit: EMET HealthCare Chaplaincy\, New York\, NY/Meditative Space\, 2002
