SUMMARY:Songwriters’ Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Tribe 12 presents a special performance with three local Philadelphia Jewish singer/songwriters: Rory Michelle Sullivan\, Adina (Amber) Ikeman\, and Jesse Weil. \nRory Michelle Sullivan creates music and gatherings that foster growth\, healing\, and connection by holding space for our humanness\, the unfolding of our lives\, and being who we truly are – with integrity\, grace\, and all of our messy\, beautiful selves – towards a world that is more human\, healthy\, and whole. Hailed as “timeless as the ocean tides” by listeners\, Rory Michelle’s music is rooted in the folk sing-along tradition of Pete Seeger and mixed with singer-songwriter (think Joni Mitchell) and musical theatre influences (think Cole Porter meets Stephen Sondheim) along with heart\, depth\, and just the right amount of playfulness and delight. www.rorymichelle.com \nAdina (Amber) Ikeman quenches your soul and soothes your heart with her award-winning folk/pop songs. Images from her years as a dishwasher and tour guide in Yellowstone National Park and cantorial soloist in Bozeman\, Montana give a living backdrop to her lyrics of self-discovery\, resilience\, and wildness. Her artistry is distinguished by an undeniable combination of classically trained vocals\, insightful lyricism\, engaging storytelling\, and poignant confession. Adina has toured all across the United States and parts of Canada. Hear more at amberikeman.com. \nJesse Weil is an aspiring Rabbi and interdisciplinary artist and educator. Before beginning his studies at RRC\, Jesse was performing in theater productions all over the country. Some of his favorite credits have included Fiddler on the Roof (Motel Kamzoil in the 1st National Broadway Tour)\, Tick\, Tick…Boom! (Jon at Portland Center Stage)\, and Hair (Claude at Pentangle Arts). He has also had the pleasure to debut his own writing at venues such as Ars Nova\, Webster Hall\, and 54 Below. Follow @jesseaweil for updates about his upcoming EP!

SUMMARY:Read With JWI x Artists Against Antisemitism: Happy New Years
DESCRIPTION:JWI works to ensure that Jewish women can live safely\, speak boldly\, and lead powerfully. Read with Jewish Women International & Artists Against Antisemitism is part of that fight\, bringing us together around books by Jewish women authors\, amplifying voices that refuse to be silenced.\nMay Selection: Happy New Years by Maya Arad\nShe sold Tupperware. Then million-dollar homes. She wrote home every Rosh Hashanah for fifty years — and left out everything that mattered. \nHappy New Years by Maya Arad is a National Jewish Book Award finalist — a novel told in five decades of letters Leah writes home to Israel. \nJoin us for a conversation with Maya Arad\, moderated by Erika Dreifus\, Jewish author and literary advocate.

SUMMARY:Esther Perel: Mating in Captivity\, 20 Years Later
DESCRIPTION:Renowned psychotherapist Esther Perel is widely considered one of the world’s most insightful and original voices on erotic intelligence. With her first book\, Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence\, Perel changed how we talk about love\, intimacy\, and desire\, asking: \n\nWhy does good sex fade even in couples who continue to love each other?\nWhy doesn’t good intimacy guarantee good sex?\nCan we want what we already have?\nWhy does sex make babies and babies spell erotic disaster in couples?\nWhy is the forbidden so erotic?\nAnd ultimately\, how do we manage the tension between domesticity and desire?\n\nOn the 20th anniversary of Mating in Captivity\, Perel brings these questions to The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center stage\, reflecting on two decades of cultural change that have further challenged intimacy and desire. We once asked whether desire could survive children\, marriage and the growing demands of modern coupledom. Today\, the question is whether it can survive our frictionless technologies and our increasingly disembodied lives. \nMore than a retrospective\, this conversation revisits a book that has become a cultural touchstone\, offering a multicultural framework for how couples might cultivate aliveness\, curiosity and erotic vitality amid growing disconnection. \nAbout Esther Perel \nPsychotherapist and New York Times bestselling author Esther Perel is recognized as one of today’s most insightful and original voices on modern relationships. Fluent in nine languages\, she helms a therapy practice in New York City\, serves as an organizational consultant for Fortune 500 companies and is an advisor to both Hinge and Culture Amp on the intricacies of human connection. Her celebrated TED Talks have garnered 50 million views\, and her bestselling books\, Mating in Captivity and The State of Affairs\, are global phenomena translated into more than 30 languages. Perel is also the host of the hit podcast Where Should We Begin?\, which has captivated millions of listeners around the world for nearly a decade.
