DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the release of Taylor Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl (October 3) with us under the sukkah! \nWe’ll be listening to the album together\, making friendship bracelets\, and learning a bit of Torah through gematria whileexploring the connection between numbers in Jewish tradition and the hidden clues in Taylor’s music.  \n(Gematria is a traditional Jewish system of assigning numerical values to Hebrew letters\, words\, and phrases.) Taylor is famous for planting hidden messages\, numbers\, and “easter eggs” in her work—both in the music itself and in everything around it. Together\, it’s a (Swiftie Jewish Educator’s) match made in heaven. \nOrange-theme (IYKYK) drinks and snacks provided. \nAccessibility: If it’s nice out\, we’ll gather on the fourth floor outdoor deck. There are eight steps leading up to Base UWS. There is an elevator that travels in between the first\, second\, and third floors. The elevator does not go up to the fourth floor outdoor deck\, which has 22 stairs. \nAddress given upon registration. DESCRIPTION:This fall Tribe 12 is teaming up again with Embark (a project of Mem Global) to offer Embark Philly Queer Couples Cohort: The Home We Build Together\, a 6-part series (Tuesday evenings) plus a retreat (Nov 7-9) and a Shabbat Dinner (Oct 17th) for couples seeking community and support as they make decisions about their spiritual lives. For the first time ever\, we are running a designated cohort for folks in the LGBTQIA+ community. The content will mostly be the same from the past cohorts\, but with a queer-normative lens. \nThis couples cohort will help build community amongst Jews and those who love them who are in a similar life stage in the Philly area. Sessions will include conversations about how to: celebrate holidays in your home\, navigate family dynamics\, create new traditions together and more! The cohort is open to all couples in committed relationships\, especially those from mixed-heritage & interfaith backgrounds. All sessions will be in person\, mostly at the Weitzman Museum. Ten years ago\, David and his twin brother Eitan starred in Shoval’s award-winning debut feature film Youth (Berlinale 2013)\, which focused on the powerful bond between brothers and\, in a tragic and unimaginable twist of fate\, revolved around a kidnapping. Through unedited behind-the-scenes footage and audition tapes from Youth\, Shoval builds a multi-layered documentary that explores the inexplicable connections between life and cinema\, memory and reality\, and the catastrophic consequences of war.

In that spirit\, we invite 30somethings dating in Philly’s Jewish community to meet new people\, enjoy a feast for the senses\, and walk away with a few soulful insights to carry into the holiday! \nMarrakesh\, a hidden gem in Society Hill\, is not your average dinner out. From the moment you step inside\, prepare to be transported to Morocco — picture low\, plush seating\, colorful tapestries and pillows\, glowing lanterns\, and ornate brass everything. Start with a rosewater hand-washing ritual followed by a vibrant 7-course (!!!) family-style Moroccan feast including dessert. When the belly dancer swings through\, that’s when the dinner party turns into a party-party. \nDesigned as a meaningful lead-up to Sukkot\, the evening will also help you welcome the holiday with intention as Tribe 12’s rabbinic intern Adina Ikeman and Tribe 12 matchmaker Danielle Selber (who is a Moroccan Jew) share personal stories and Jewish mystical traditions. \nYour $40 ticket covers the a 7-course feast (tip and tax are already included). Through a series of games – which includes calling the boys’ moms and unlocking their phones – we narrow it down to two men. Finally\, we hear their voices\, and the lucky winning man is sent with our bachelorette to the bar for an immediate date. Audience members wear wristbands according to their relationship status\, and a wingcouple (who wears actual wings) helps those of you who are too shy to make a move. DESCRIPTION:We are looking forward to being together in community for Yom Kippur this year! \nWe are committed to making our events open and accessible to everyone in our community at no cost. At the same time\, there are costs associated with running our programs. The recommended donation for Yom Kippur is $100 per adult. We encourage everyone to give at a level which feels feasible for them while acknowledging the cost to run this event. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. We also welcome sponsors to help cover the cost to make services possible for all of us\, including those who are unable to pay the suggested donation. \nA full schedule can be found below: \nOctober 1 \nKol Nidre and Ma’ariv – 6:15pm \nOctober 2 \nShacharit and Musaf – 8:30am \nMincha – 1pm \nNeila and Break Fast – 5:30pm \n*Childcare will be provided during Shacharit and Musaf from 10am to 1pm. Kids’ services will take place from 11am to 12pm.   \n**Kehillat Harlem strives to make each person feel at home in our prayer space by upholding our commitment to halachah (Jewish law) while working hard to hold our commitments to maximum inclusivity. Our tefillot (prayer services) are liturgically traditional and there is a mehitza (separation between genders) while davening. Daveners (those who pray) sit in the section with which they identify\, and we make space for anyone who identifies outside of the gender binary. Tefillot are male-led and Torah reading is open to community members of any gender identity to read.
