SUMMARY:Esther Perel: Mating in Captivity\, 20 Years Later
DESCRIPTION:Renowned psychotherapist Esther Perel is widely considered one of the world’s most insightful and original voices on erotic intelligence. With her first book\, Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence\, Perel changed how we talk about love\, intimacy\, and desire\, asking: \n\nWhy does good sex fade even in couples who continue to love each other?\nWhy doesn’t good intimacy guarantee good sex?\nCan we want what we already have?\nWhy does sex make babies and babies spell erotic disaster in couples?\nWhy is the forbidden so erotic?\nAnd ultimately\, how do we manage the tension between domesticity and desire?\n\nOn the 20th anniversary of Mating in Captivity\, Perel brings these questions to The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center stage\, reflecting on two decades of cultural change that have further challenged intimacy and desire. We once asked whether desire could survive children\, marriage and the growing demands of modern coupledom. Today\, the question is whether it can survive our frictionless technologies and our increasingly disembodied lives. \nMore than a retrospective\, this conversation revisits a book that has become a cultural touchstone\, offering a multicultural framework for how couples might cultivate aliveness\, curiosity and erotic vitality amid growing disconnection. \nAbout Esther Perel \nPsychotherapist and New York Times bestselling author Esther Perel is recognized as one of today’s most insightful and original voices on modern relationships. Fluent in nine languages\, she helms a therapy practice in New York City\, serves as an organizational consultant for Fortune 500 companies and is an advisor to both Hinge and Culture Amp on the intricacies of human connection. Her celebrated TED Talks have garnered 50 million views\, and her bestselling books\, Mating in Captivity and The State of Affairs\, are global phenomena translated into more than 30 languages. Perel is also the host of the hit podcast Where Should We Begin?\, which has captivated millions of listeners around the world for nearly a decade. Learn more about her live events\, games\, and other projects designed to improve your relationships at EstherPerel.com.

SUMMARY:Shavuot: Bites & Bite-Sized Torah
DESCRIPTION:Join Rabbinic Intern Adina\, Rachel\, and Izzy for a night of delicious food and bite-sized Torah study at the Weitzman. We plan to serve a dairy-filled dinner in celebration of Shavuot. For our Torah study\, we ask that everyone chooses 1-2 verses (sentences) of Torah before the event that relate to their lives – whether it be their hobbies\, their values\, their job/school\, etc. During the program\, everyone will have a few minutes to teach their verse of Torah to small groups and explain how it relates to their life! If you don’t have time to prepare or don’t know where to begin to prep your verse\, we will have plenty available at the event that you can choose from. On Sefaria\, you can search by topic to find a verse that speaks to you!

SUMMARY:Senator Chris Murphy
DESCRIPTION:Sen. Murphy views the Trump administration’s assaults on democracy as a symptom of a deeper crisis: the abandonment of the common good as our country’s organizing principle. In Crisis of the Common Good: The Fight for Meaning and Connection in a Broken America\, he draws on history and political philosophy to expose how six different cults have paved the way to our current troubles: a cult of profit that punishes workers\, a cult of globalism that weakens communities\, a cult of technology that turns us against one another\, a cult of consumption that undermines citizenship\, a cult of credentialism that devalues those without degrees\, and a cult of corruption that threatens democracy. \nwith Politics and Prose Bookstore \nEvents at Sixth & I \n\nSeating is primarily general admission; first-come\, first-served. SUMMARY:NADAV's Celebration & Farewell Concert
DESCRIPTION:After playing music in Boston for the last 4 years\, this is going to be my ‘Farewell concert’\, a final live performance before moving back to Haifa. It will feature a new collaborative band with Itay Dayan\, Debuting new music and old favorites from both our repertoires \nAbout Nadav\nNadav Brenner (b. 2000) is a Boston-based guitarist\, composer\, and singer-songwriter. With an extensive jazz education and some Israeli chutzpah\, Nadav doesn’t shy away from any music that catches his ears. He is currently engaged in indie folk\, Klezmer\, contemporary classical music\, modern jazz\, and improvised music. After receiving “Outstanding Musician” status in the IDF and performing at top jazz venues in Tel Aviv (Beit Ha’amudim\, Shablul)\, Nadav received a scholarship to study Jazz Composition at NEC\, working with Frank Carlberg and Jason Moran. He has been fortunate to play with Dave Holland\, Tim Berne\, and others\, and to perform his music throughout Boston and New York\, leading ensembles ranging from duos and trios to big band. As a side-person\, Nadav performs regularly with the KDF Big Band\, the Itay Dayan Quartet\, and the Jeff Sagurton Quintet\, as well as various ad-hoc groups at Wally’s and NEC recitals.Nadav graduated from Reut High School for the Arts with honors\, double majoring in jazz performance and contemporary composition. At the same time\, his trio performed extensively in Haifa. He continued his studies at the Tel Aviv Conservatory\, taking lessons with Anat Fort.
