SUMMARY:Dr. Jill Biden (IRL + Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a candid conversation with former First Lady Jill Biden about her life in the White House during a singular moment in U.S. history—and her new memoir\, View from the East Wing. \nIn the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic\, in the shadow of the January 6 insurrection\, Joe and Jill Biden arrived at the White House for one of the most complicated periods in recent American memory. SUMMARY:MATT HAIG – THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN
DESCRIPTION:The JCCSF and Litquake welcome international bestselling author Matt Haig for an evening celebrating The Midnight Train\, a spellbinding new time-traveling story set in the imaginative universe of his worldwide sensation The Midnight Library. \nWhat if you could revisit the moments that shaped your life – and choose differently? \nWhen Wilbur boards the mysterious Midnight Train\, he is given the rare chance to travel back to pivotal moments from his past and see what might have been. For Wilbur\, every path leads back to Maggie – the love of his life\, and the life he once imagined but lost. But revisiting the past comes with a cost\, and changing even one moment may alter everything that follows. \nWith the warmth\, imagination\, and emotional insight that have made him one of the most beloved storytellers of our time\, Haig explores regret\, possibility\, and the fragile magic of second chances. \nPresented in partnership with Litquake and Green Apple Books. \nQuestions? Email support@jccsf.org

SUMMARY:Interfaith Social Justice Book Club: Wild Dark Shore
DESCRIPTION:Dive into powerful literature alongside community members of B’nai Jeshurun and St. Paul & St. Andrew\, as we join together in exploring books that amplify social justice themes. Each month\, we’ll gather together in person to reflect on and discuss our monthly read. We’ll read both fiction and nonfiction works that wrestle with the intersecting injustices we collectively face. \nThis month we’re reading *Wild Dark Shore* by Charlotte McConaghy. Dominic Salt and his three children are caretakers of Shearwater\, a tiny island not far from Antarctica. Home to the world’s largest seed bank\, Shearwater was once full of researchers\, but with sea levels rising\, the Salts are now its final inhabitants. Then\, during the worst storm the island has ever seen\, a woman mysteriously washes ashore.

SUMMARY:Jewish DragIcons: Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Golan Moskowitz about the little-known history of Jewish drag in the U.S.–from Yiddish drag kings in the early 1900s to the iconic performers and activists of the 1960s and beyond (hello\, Sadie\, Sadie the Rabbi Lady!)–and the diversity of Jewish drag today. Through stories and film clips\, we’ll explore the intersection of drag and Judaism\, celebrate the icons of the past century\, and explore the provocative questions this art form has always raised. \nThen\, because no conversation about drag is complete without live performance\, we’ll present a full-blown Jewish drag show! Hosted by drag artist Yochai Greenfeld\, the evening will feature performances by Alvah Klempt\, Matzah Belle Soup\, and Yiddish drag king artist Miryem-Khaye Siegel for an unforgettable celebration of fabulous Jewish culture. \nFinally\, we’ll close the night with a dance party\, so stick around to keep the Pride celebration going!

SUMMARY:Board Game Speed Dating with Quirk Events
DESCRIPTION:Finding someone can be painful. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and searching for a partner? \n\n\n\n\nSearching for a partner can be horrifically painful. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and finding a partner? \nPicture this: You sit down for a night of games. A gaming concierge walks you through several games over the course of the night. You play classics you love and discover brand new games you’ve never heard of\, playing each with a different group of fun singles. All while in a great establishment with plenty of delicious options on tap. At the end of the night\, you give your gaming concierge a list of the folks you met that you’d like to date and a list of those you met that you’d like to just hang out with as friends. If any two people put down the same name as each other in either column\, then your gaming concierge will make sure you get each other’s e-mail address and you can coordinate a time to hang out. \nBest case scenario: You find true love\, discover some awesome board games\, and make some new friends. \nBad case scenario: You accomplish only one of those three things\, which is still pretty great. \nWorst case scenario: There will be alcohol. \nThis event is sponsored by Luv With Lev\, a DC-area organization dedicated to Jewish matchmaking. It is specifically for Jewish single men & women in their 20s and 30s\, but in every other way\, it will run the same as our other board game speed dating events. We also have more generalized events\, as well as LGBTQIA+ events. And we’re hoping to add events to serve even more people in the future! Head over to https://www.quirkevents.com/dc to see what else we have to offer. (If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page\, you’ll be able to join our mailing list and get notified about future events. Plus\, joining our mailing list gets you 50% off your first ticket purchase!) \nBefore you decide to buy tickets\, a few basics we should cover: \n1) To stay up-to-date on everything we have going on at Quirk Events\, follow us on Instagram here! \n2) Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 48 hours’ notice\, in order to make sure we have enough time to find a replacement for you and keep the event well-populated. (Exceptions will be made for emergency situations on a case-by-case basis). After that\, we’re blowing the money from your ticket sale on something awesome and nonrefundable. \n3) If we get to 24 hours before the event and still haven’t sold five tickets for each gender\, we will cancel the event (and notify you). When we have run this event in the past\, tickets have consistently sold very well\, so we don’t expect this to happen. But we thought we should cover this in case it came up. \n4) How many games we have and which ones we use will be based in part on how many people attend\, so we can’t tell you for sure what we’ll have right now. But the goal is for all of them to be fun\, light\, easy-to-learn games. Selection will include games from both the something-you-have-played-before category and the something-you-haven’t-played-before category. The games are also chosen because they often tend to spark conversation and leave room for chatting with new people as you play. All games will be group games\, meaning you’ll get a chance to meet a handful of people with each new round. \nNote: While Dacha Beer Garden is primarily an outdoor venue\, this particular event will take place in their indoor private event space. Please note that Dacha does not serve food in this space\, so if you’d like to order dinner\, we recommend arriving early and getting a bite in their main dining area.
