Opening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness

Ye’ela Wilschanski invites us into her immersive artwork in the form of a Sukkah. Ye’ela’s piece, Tending to Seeds of Sweetness, is an art installation, an architectural garment, and a temporary dwelling which will be used for seven days of events throughout the holiday of Sukkot.

Ye’ela draws her inspiration from Sukkot’s ritual of Netilat Lulav: a bundle of four plants centered around a date tree frond. Through her unique artistic vocabulary, she incorporates elements of the date tree including the sweet pits of the date fruit and the inflorescences and fronds. The artist combines basket weaving, needle work, and pottery to create the Sukkah art installation.

Opening Night: Tending to Seeds of Sweetness is presented by The Neighborhood: An Urban Center for Jewish Life as a part of the Sukkot in The Neighborhood festival at the Ring Community Center at Luria Academy of Brooklyn. Sukkot in The Neighborhood events take place in an art installation Sukkah created by Ye’ela Wilschanski. Click here to see the full schedule of events.
