???? ACCESS + COVID STUFF
This will be a masked and smoke-free event with indoor and outdoor space.
COVID
BUT WAIT? Isn’t the pandemic over?! Why is this a masked event?
Many older, disabled and immunocompromised people are still bearing the brunt of the covid-19 pandemic, and Long Covid continues to impact millions of people.
As a collaboration of Jewish groups working towards justice, we understand that centering and supporting the needs of our community members that are most targeted and excluded by ableism, is essential to justice work. Masking is very much a community care issue and this event will center the health and safety of everyone. Check out this link for safer in-person gathering guidelines!
We are committed to making this space as accessible as possible. We also acknowledge that in spaces there may be different access needs that are not able to be met (i.e. all-masked spaces are inaccessible to deaf and many hard of hearing folks), and we are committed to flexibly working with anyone to address these concerns. We are currently searching for an ASL interpreter and will update this Eventbrite page accordingly.
BUILDING ACCESS
The front entrance of the building can be accessed up a flight and a half of stairs from the street, and another step into the building itself.
The back door can be entered directly from the alley without steps, or from the parking lot off the alley with one 3-inch step. The alley itself has a slightly steep grade there (maybe 8%). Once inside, it’s possible to access all of the indoor spaces we’ll be in. The outdoor courtyard space is 3-4 stairs down.
SCENTS
We request that you avoid wearing any scents (strong lotions or perfumes, etc) for people in our community who live with chemical sensitivities / chemical injuries. For more information on fragrance-free spaces read this article by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha
We will update this page with more access information soon.
*********
Radical Purim Masquerade is one of many radical Purim celebrations bursting across North America. Our gathering is loosely based on other radical Purim parties, such as the ones put on by Jews for Racial & Economic Justice in New York, the Boston Workmen’s Circle, and the New Synagogue Project in DC. The wild, countercultural spirit of Purim in Jewish traditions aligns with our values to work for equity, justice and collective liberation. (Thank you to the New Synagogue Project for the language inspiration!)
