Ritual in Everyday Life and Extraordinary Times: A Collaborative, Storytelling Workshop

Please join Tribe 12 and co-facilitators, Shira Collings and Wendy A. Horwitz, for an interactive workshop about ritual. Using stories, we’ll explore the potential for ritual—defined broadly—as a way to make meaning in our everyday existence and during extraordinary and challenging times. We will use oral storytelling and writing to examine the boundaries of ritual and discuss open-ended questions: What are the parameters and definitions of meaningful ritual? How might we ‘borrow’ rituals from others, create new practices, or temporarily enter others’ ritual communities? Should we? How does sensory experience, nature, art, and community, as well as our personal histories, religious and/or secular traditions, inform ritual in our lives? As part of our inspiration and discussion, Wendy will share some stories from her book, Milkweed and Honey Cake: A Memoir in Ritual Moments. Snacks will be served.
