The Greenpoint Shul (Congregation Ahavas Israel) is a welcoming, warm, traditional congregation in waterfront Brooklyn.
We are the oldest synagogue in Brooklyn and our gorgeous 1903 building is a Jewel of Jewish and NYC history. You are invited to connect with Torah, Mitzvot, Jewish community, and Jewish celebration in our phenomenal and historic space.
Founded in the 1800's by German-Jewish immigrants, today Greenpoint Shul is a mix of neighborhood regulars, newcomers, families, young professionals, kids, and elders -- with a rainbow of Jewish backgrounds ranging from "trying this out" to Satmar hasid.
We meet in-person (with strong Covid precautions) in our historic sanctuary every Friday night, Shabbos day, and for all Jewish holidays. Shabbos and holiday services are followed by a Kiddush communal meal, in our backyard space.
Greenpoint Shul has not posted any upcoming events.
