About Shalom Bayit, Ending Domestic Violence in Jewish Homes
Shalom Bayit is Northern California’s first and only Jewish agency dedicated solely to ending domestic violence in the Jewish community. Founded in 1992 as a grassroots collective, the organization has grown into the Bay Area’s leading voice on domestic violence within Jewish homes, providing 24-hour helpline support, safety planning, counseling, legal advocacy, and emergency financial assistance to survivors of intimate partner violence.
Rooted in Jewish values, Shalom Bayit works to break the silence around abuse and dispel the myth that domestic violence does not happen in the Jewish community. Its programs combine trauma-informed direct services with community education, training, and prevention initiatives designed to shift community norms and improve institutional responses to abuse.
The organization serves survivors regardless of age, gender, or relationship status, and operates offices serving the greater Bay Area and Peninsula. It is fiscally sponsored (a project of Social Good Fund/Tides Center) and receives support from local Jewish Federations and philanthropic grantors committed to building safer, healthier Jewish homes and families.
