About Association of Independent Schools in New England
The Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE), founded in 1904, serves over 260 independent schools across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. It is one of the largest regional independent school associations in the country and represents a diverse range of schools in terms of size, pedagogy, religious affiliation, and mission.
AISNE supports and strengthens member schools through rigorous accreditation programs, insightful events, and peer-to-peer networking opportunities. Its accreditation program (for elementary schools directly, and in partnership with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges for others) ensures schools meet high standards including nonprofit status, antidiscrimination policies, sound governance, and financial accountability.
With an ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion, AISNE shapes the educational landscape for independent schools through leadership, education, service, and strategic advocacy. The organization offers professional development for educators and administrators, student-oriented events and fairs, and resources on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, positioning itself as a hub where member schools turn for inspiration and support in advancing educational excellence.
