About CSS – Community Security Service
The Community Security Service (CSS) is a national, apolitical 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding the American Jewish community. Founded and formally incorporated in 2007, it is the leading community-based security organization in the United States. Its ethos draws on a century of Jewish self-defense in America.
CSS provides professional-level security training and coordination to ordinary community members. They serve as the eyes and ears of their community and help deter, prevent and mitigate attacks on Jewish institutions. Training ranges from introductory online courses to building and coordinating full volunteer security teams. The CSS Academy also certifies volunteer leaders who can train others in their own communities.
CSS says it has trained more than 20,000 volunteers. They help secure hundreds of synagogues, institutions and events every week. CSS has offices in New York, Stamford, Miami and Los Angeles. It works closely with law enforcement and Jewish communal partners such as federations and community relations councils.
