About Jewish Federation of the Desert
The Jewish Federation of the Desert (formally the Jewish Federation of Palm Springs and Desert Area) was founded in 1972 and is based in Rancho Mirage, California. Its mission is to enhance and enrich the quality of Jewish life by supporting the charitable, educational and humanitarian needs of the Jewish community. It serves as the central source of information and referral for Jewish life in the Desert area.
The Federation runs an annual campaign and gives grants to local, regional and international organizations. In 2025 it awarded more than $1.2 million in grants. It also runs Women’s Philanthropy, publishes the monthly Jewish Community News and a weekly e-newsletter, and sponsors PJ Library for local families. It also hosts community events and works to build an inclusive community, including for LGBTQ+ Jews and their families.
The Federation brings together the many synagogues and Jewish organizations of the Coachella Valley. It speaks for the community on local, national and international issues.
