Being Heumann

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Siân Heder, director of Coda, comes the extraordinary true story of Judy Heumann, the Jewish activist who became known as the “Mother of the Disability Rights Movement.” With a breakout performance by Ruth Madeley, alongside Dylan O’Brien, this exhilarating true story has captivated audiences on the fall festival circuit and is already generating major awards buzz.

In 1977, Judy Heumann and a determined coalition of activists did something that seemed impossible, they occupied a federal building and refused to leave until the government honored its commitment to protect the civil rights of people with disabilities. What began with a small group of determined outsiders became a historic 28-day occupation—and a movement that would transform the lives of millions.
